This provision is good
n Since the previous inspection, the childminder has worked hard to make significant changes to how she assesses children's progress. These changes have a positive impact on children's learning outcomes. n Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder plans a worthwhile range of activities, which capture the children's interests. n The childminder successfully promotes children's good health. She encourages children to eat healthy snacks and meals, and teaches good hygiene practices. n The childminder is committed to further developing her current good childminding practice. For example, she attends training courses and works closely with other childcare providers. n The childminder makes good use of the local community to offer children wider learning experiences. For example, children enjoy song and rhyme time, nature walks in the woods and feeding animals at the farm.
p.1
This provision is good
n The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to develop links with other settings children attend, to further support a shared approach to their learning. n Occasionally, the childminder does not give children time to think and respond to questions, to encourage them to consistently build on their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect children from harm. She is confident to follow procedures if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder completes daily safety checks around her home and for outings, to identify and minimise any potential hazards, to help keep children safe and secure. Parents are complimentary about the care and education the childminder provides for their children. They particularly enjoy receiving feedback about their child's activities during the day, which they find reassuring.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder closely assesses children's progress and she uses this information to identify and plan for their next steps for learning. She successfully encourages young children's literacy skills and mathematical development. For example, during a dough activity, children explore colour, shape and numbers, and the childminder builds on their interest in sounds and letters. Young children use their imagination and find out how things work. For example, they act out stories with small world people and operate toys with buttons, switches and levers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has close relationships with the children. They are happy and clearly enjoy her playful interactions. The childminder encourages children to be as independent as possible. For example, she provides good quality toys and resources at their level, so they can independently choose what they want to use. Children begin to take some responsibility for their own safety. For example, the childminder teaches them about road safety on outings. Children make good progress in their physical development. They develop good control and coordination in large and small movements. For example, children climb and balance on a variety of apparatus, and thread beads and build with construction toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their different starting points. They practise their early writing skills, for example, they use pencils, chalks and paint to make marks. Children develop good attention and listening skills, for instance, when they enjoy stories with puppets. Children behave well. They learn to take turns and share, and they make friendships. Children gain key skills that help them to move on to the next stage of learning.
