Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and of her responsibilities to report any concerns about children's well-being. She regularly attends child protection training and keeps herself up to date with any new guidance. The childminder conducts risk assessments for her home and for the outings that she undertakes with children to ensure their safety. She demonstrates a good understanding of the early years foundation stage requirements. Parents value the challenging learning experiences that the childminder provides and the good-quality care that children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses information gathered from parents to plan effectively to meet children's learning and development needs. Children access a wide range of age- appropriate resources and engage in a selection of interesting learning experiences. For instance, younger children delightedly explore and play with animals in the small-world farm. This helps to extend their understanding of the world. The childminder supports children's communication and language well. For example, she plays alongside children and uses appropriate questions and explanations. Children demonstrate their developing listening and attention skills. For example, they follow simple instructions while singing action songs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play and learn in a very safe and secure learning environment. Children are confident and inquisitive. The childminder is skilled in encouraging children to develop their independence skills. For example, they confidently select their own toys and help to tidy up. The childminder uses a calm and gentle approach with children, giving them consistent praise and encouragement. Children have frequent opportunities for fresh air and physical exercise, such as when they play in garden and go on trips to local parks. They attend groups where they learn to socialise with others in preparation for school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and develop confidence in their abilities. They are developing the key skills required for their next steps in learning and readiness for school. Children select books to read and make marks independently. The childminder supports younger children to develop good communication and social skills. Children are keen to join in activities and try new experiences.
