This provision is good
n The childminder knows children and their families well. She effectively monitors children's progress and plans a wide range of activities based on their stage of development and emerging interests. Children make good progress in their learning given their starting points. Children are well prepared for their next steps in learning and move to school. n The childminder is an exceptional role model. She is calm, patient and takes time to praise and encourage children. This helps children develop extremely high levels of confidence and self-esteem. n Children demonstrate excellent levels of behaviour. They are extremely interested in all that they do, not easily distracted, and show a positive attitude to their learning. n The childminder promotes children's high levels of interest in animals. Children become fascinated as they closely observe a pet tortoise. They look at why tortoises have shells, what types of food they eat and why they hibernate through the winter months.

n Partnerships with parents is strong. The childminder uses her well-established systems that successfully involves parents in contributing to their children's ongoing progress and home learning. n Parents are very complementary about the care and education their childminder provides for their children. n Younger children have fewer opportunities to access and use resources that support their sensory experiences to extend their learning even further. n The childminder has not fully explored ways to evaluate her practice and actively seek the views and suggestions of parents, children and other professionals.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a secure knowledge and understanding of child protection issues. She knows the reporting procedures to take in the event of any child protection concern. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments of all areas, resources and equipment, and supervises children well. This helps to maintain a safe environment as she takes positive steps to minimise risks to children. The childminder uses her links with other childminders and attends local authority update meetings to continuously develop her knowledge base. She has attended recent training on 'how boys play' and this has had a positive impact on her planning of the curriculum.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively uses spontaneous moments in children's play to support their learning. Younger children become absorbed in combining objects together to create a face. The childminder takes this opportunity to explore with children their own features. This results in lots of smiles, giggles and playfulness. The childminder skilfully builds on young children's vocabulary and introduces words such as hay barn, pigsty and trough as they explore a farm yard in imaginary play. The childminder helps build children's early numeracy skills. She makes counting part of everyday routines. For example, as children count pieces of fruit such as bananas and blueberries or conkers collected outdoors. Children develop their hand-to eye-coordination and learn about the safe use of knives and how much pressure to apply as they cut and slice fruit. This develops children's early writing skills as they learn to use a wide range of tools.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder places an exceptional focus on developing young children's emotional development and well-being. Children are happy, extremely confident and independent learners who develop an exceptional bond with their childminder. She gives meticulous attention when gathering information on children's individual care needs from parents. This helps her to recognise and respond extremely well to their individual needs. Children benefit from a healthy outdoor lifestyle. For example, they learn about the changing seasons as they grow and harvest fruits, such as strawberries in the garden. The childminder supports children to talk about their families. This helps them develop an excellent awareness of who they are, which supports their self-esteem. She takes children on outings into the local community to help them develop an understanding of other people, places and communities beyond their own.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop a curiosity for learning, enjoy exploring their surroundings, and accessing resources that interest them. They demonstrate great determination to complete their chosen play and enthusiastically welcome others. Children enjoy being physically active and have numerous opportunities to develop their physical skills. They dance to music and explore more complex climbing equipment at local parks. This helps them to develop their skills in balance, control and coordination.
