Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to keep children safe and promote their welfare. Regular refresher training in child protection ensures her knowledge of the procedures to follow is up to date. Suitable recruitment and ongoing monitoring ensures that the assistant has the required knowledge and skills to support the children. The childminder is very reflective and makes changes to continually extend her service. For example, she continues to improve the play opportunities in the garden.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder demonstrates good teaching skills. She successfully engages children in a good range of activities that is planned to take account of their interests and identified next steps in learning. Children are excited to join in with all the activities. They enjoy exploring paint to make pictures and they get involved in role play, caring for and putting baby dolls to bed. The childminder encourages children to learn about mathematics. They scoop up dry pasta and pour it between different sized containers. Children are supported to lead their own play. The childminder encourages them to use their imagination as they make pretend cakes and put them in the toy oven. The childminder knows each child very well and she makes good use of observation and assessment to plan activities that help children make progress.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children benefit from the effective partnerships the childminder develops with their parents. From the outset, she values information provided by parents to ensure she can meet their needs and offer a consistent approach. Parents are very happy with the childminder's care and her professional and friendly approach. Children clearly show they have a sense of belonging and that they feel safe in the childminder's home. They arrive happily and quickly settle to play. Children are familiar with the daily routines and their behaviour is good. The childminder helps children to begin to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They enjoy taking part in a wide range of experiences that covers all areas of learning and continually builds on what they already know. Children are encouraged to be independent as they make choices about what they do, feed themselves and clean their hands before eating and after messy activities. Children are learning to be respectful and to recognise differences and diversity. These are key skills that help ensure they are well prepared for starting school.
