The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has undertaken relevant safeguarding training to help her to recognise the signs that may indicate a child is at risk. She knows the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child's well- being. The childminder maintains good standards of safety in her home and on outings. This keeps children secure and helps them to learn about staying safe, such as how to cross roads safely. The childminder reflects on her practice and on children's needs and looks for ways to make effective improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn through play. She assesses children's initial starting points in all aspects of their learning. The childminder gathers information during discussions with parents at children's settling-in sessions. Toddlers are imaginative and lead their own play successfully. They pretend to make cups of tea and food for the childminder. Children are learning to be creative. The childminder provides attractive resources for children to make craft items to celebrate special occasions. Older children designed a colourful poppy display for Remembrance Sunday. The childminder shows children how to squash, cut and roll soft dough with different tools. Younger children explore the texture of the dough and make shapes. Children learn to operate toy computers as they press buttons to create sounds.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder sets consistent boundaries and children behave well. She is a positive role model. For example, she uses words, such as 'please' and 'thank you', and encourages children's good manners from a young age. Care practices and routines are well embedded. For example, the childminder ensures children's nappies are regularly changed and they have clean hands before eating. Children have good opportunities for fresh air and regular exercise in the childminder's garden and through visits to local parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They build on their existing knowledge and abilities and acquire a range of skills to support their future learning.
