p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern about the welfare of a child in her care. She knows the procedure to follow if she has any concerns. She has made herself aware of how to identify any children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder carries out detailed risk assessments which help her to keep children safe. For example, she carefully teaches children how to behave around any animals they may encounter. The childminder uses the training she accesses effectively, for instance, to support children's speech and language.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder consistently supports children's mathematical learning. For example, she includes numbers, shapes, size and weight in a wide variety of activities. Children delight in moving and dancing as they listen to music. Their physical development is supported well. They learn how to use simple technology as they press buttons on resources to make them play different songs. Children access resources easily and include them in different activities. Parents praise the childminder and the care she provides. They say their children make good progress. The childminder supports parents in extending their children's learning at home. Children benefit from the continuity in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have interesting opportunities to explore their local area. They learn about people whose experiences may be different to their own, for instance, on their regular trips to the local library. Children enjoy carrying out simple tasks. For example, they eagerly help to tidy away after activities and learn to care for their resources and environment. They learn to lead a healthy lifestyle and keep themselves safe and well. For instance, children independently wash their hands before and after eating. They are very secure in their relationship with the childminder and enjoy including her in their play. Children behave well and are happy and settled.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are sociable and self-confident. They delightedly use their developing imaginations as they create a 'picnic' and pretend to be 'hairdressers'. They form good bonds with each other and spontaneously hug and enjoy playing with each other. Children use their language skills to talk about how apples grow on 'apple trees' and gain satisfaction from sharing their learning. They experiment and become engrossed in their activities. For example, children become fascinated as they watch lights which change colour. They are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.
