She knows who to contact if she suspects a child is at risk of harm. The childminder has regular meetings with her assistant to supervise and guide her in her role. The childminder updates her skills and knowledge regularly. She attends training with her assistant and researches online for further ideas to support practice to benefit children's learning and development. The childminder reviews children's progress carefully to identify any gaps in learning quickly. Risk assessment procedures are rigorous. The childminder carries out thorough checks of her house, garden and for outings. This helps to minimise the risks to children.

Children are developing good independence skills. For instance, children show competence as they get themselves ready to go outdoors and pour their own drinks at mealtimes. The childminder supports children's understanding about how to keep themselves safe. For example, children learn how to cross the road safely when on outings. The childminder praises children's achievements, which supports children's self- esteem and confidence. The childminder and her assistant are strong role models. They consistently manage children's behaviour well.

p.3
