Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder manages her setting efficiently. Safeguarding is effective. She has a good knowledge of how to protect children. The childminder keeps fully up to date with relevant information, such as current contact details and local procedures, to ensure children are kept safe. The childminder follows her secure policies to ensure the smooth running of the setting and to promote children's welfare. For example, she checks the environment thoroughly to make sure it remains a safe and secure place for children. The childminder focuses well on her continual professional development, including through research and training.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors children's progress well. She uses their next steps in development and their interests to plan exciting and meaningful activities. The childminder shares her photographic evidence with parents, these photos show the very varied range of activities and experiences children take part in. She effectively helps children to develop their mathematical understanding, such as measuring and comparing the height of sunflowers that children grew. The childminder extended children's enjoyment and interest further when they collected the sunflower seeds to create bird feeders for the garden. Parents value the good communication that they have with the childminder and comment positively about the progress that children make in her care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder ensures that children feel very welcome in her home. Children have fun. Their play is freely chosen and under their control. They decide for how long to sustain their play, what it is about and with whom to play. The childminder is a good role model and children learn to be kind and considerate towards each other. Younger children are very interested in older children's play and older children welcome and accommodate this interest, such as encouraging them to join in their games. The childminder meets their care needs very effectively. She understands the importance of fresh air, exercise, nutritious food and good-quality rest to children's good health. She organises the day so that children have access to all of these and are learning to appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development in readiness for their eventual move to school. They quickly adapt to new routines and being away from parents for the first time. They develop early mark-making skills as they draw with confidence. Children are highly responsive to new ideas and listen extremely well to the childminder.
