Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of safeguarding up to date. She understands the possible signs of abuse and the procedures to follow if she has concerns that a child is at risk. The childminder keeps her home safe and secure. She involves children in learning safety procedures, such as practising the emergency evacuation plan. The childminder makes regular assessments of children's learning and shares these with parents and other settings that children attend. Good two-way partnerships with schools and pre-school groups help her to complement children's learning elsewhere. The childminder evaluates her provision and targets her training well to meet children's needs. For example, she has increased her understanding of how to use the environment around her to teach children about early mathematics.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Babies have a safe space to move about as they begin to explore their environment. They reach for toys that appeal to them and babble with pleasure. Babies learn about how things work. For example, they pat a colourful tambourine with their hands and watch the beads inside move in response to their actions. The childminder talks to children as they play, teaching them new words to develop their growing language skills. Older children select their activities independently. The childminder takes account of their individual interests and asks for their views on new toys and future activities. She talks to parents about what children enjoy at home to help her to provide enjoyable experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides young children with a caring and nurturing environment. She attends to babies' needs with loving attention. Older children have daily opportunities to play outdoors. They visit the local park after school and play ball games in the childminder's garden. The childminder promotes children's good health well. She provides varied, nutritious snacks and makes sure drinking water is always available. Children have consistent rules to follow that encourage them to be kind, share and take turns. The childminder is vigilant when babies are present with older children. She teaches them to take account of the babies' safety and keep any toys with small pieces out of reach.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills they need for the next stage of their learning. Babies develop their independence as they feed themselves. Children play with a variety of resources that develops their understanding of technology, such as musical instruments and toy telephones. They play cooperative games together and benefit from frequent opportunities to socialise with other children. This helps them to cope with the larger social environment of school.
