Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder has worked hard since her last inspection to address weaknesses in practice. For example, she has established effective partnerships with other settings children attend to promote continuity in their care and learning needs. She has developed a new system to effectively observe, assess and monitor children's progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about child protection procedures and how to report concerns about children's welfare. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date. For example, by completing training, reading and sharing good practice with other childminders. The childminder has good relationships with parents to regularly share information and consistently support children's development. Parents are very positive about the service the childminder provides.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well and understands how they learn and develop. She provides good opportunities for children to make independent choices and follow their interests. Children are motivated to explore and learn. For instance, they respond positively to reading stories with the childminder. They listen well and repeat familiar words. The childminder frequently assesses children's abilities to identify the next steps in their learning. She uses this information well to provide purposeful play opportunities to help extend children's development. The childminder develops children's mathematical skills through play. For example, she encourages children to count and recognise shapes and colours.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's behaviour is good, and managed positively by the childminder. Children learn to share, take turns and develop friendships. The childminder is kind and caring to the children and she provides lots of praise and encouragement in everything they do. This helps to develop children's self-esteem and confidence. The childminder promotes children's awareness of healthy lifestyles well. She talks to children about healthy foods and ensures they receive plenty of fresh air and physical exercise. For example, children visit country parks and use a range of equipment to help develop their physical skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and gain appropriate skills to support their future learning. They develop good self-care skills from a young age. For example, children learn to wash their hands and feed themselves. Children learn about the natural world around them. For example, they explore in local woodland areas and look at changes in the environment. Children learn to be responsible for their environment. For example, they help to tidy up toys when finished.
