The provision is good
n The childminder has effectively developed her knowledge about teaching children early literacy skills since her last inspection. Children now enjoy a wide range of activities that supports them to develop their understanding that print carries meaning. n The childminder has a warm and friendly nature. Children enjoy playing with her and feel confident to approach her for reassurance and help. Parents report their children feel happy, safe and well cared for. n The childminder understands her legal responsibilities. She assesses risks at the setting regularly and considers how to help keep children safe on their many trips out into the community. n All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder obtains very good information from parents when their children first start to help her plan for future learning and development effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n On occasions, the childminder misses opportunities to question children during their play to consistently challenge children to explore their own explanations and ideas. n The childminder does not consider all opportunities to promote children's understanding of technology to build on their knowledge of the wider world further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
The childminder evaluates her service well. She has developed systems effectively to gain the views of children and parents since her last inspection. These help her to ensure the activities she plans follow children's interests, and that she closely consults parents about their children's development. The childminder has completed a range of training to help her gain knowledge about keeping children safe. She confidently explains her procedures for reporting any concerns she may have about a child. Safeguarding is effective.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy making their own play dough and creating 'cakes' as they play. The childminder subtly introduces mathematical language well as children count candles and discuss shapes of cutters. The childminder plans activities effectively which consider children's next steps in learning. For instance, children make marks with pens and the childminder supports them to develop the muscle strength they will need for their future writing skills. Children have lots of opportunities to socialise with wider groups of children at playgroups, parks and the local library. They develop their physical skills well, such as when they balance and climb on equipment at the park. Children enjoy learning about the natural world around them. For example, they feed the childminder's hens and collect their eggs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to use good manners and be considerate of one another. She supports children effectively to develop their independence skills, such as putting their coats on and cutting their fruit safely at snack time. Parents report the childminder considers the well-being of their children in a thoughtful manner. For instance, dietary and medical needs are always taken into consideration sensitively. Children have many opportunities to learn about the differences between themselves and others. For example, they recently learned about Diwali and made poppies for Remembrance Sunday.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good literacy and early mathematical skills, such as when they read from favourite books with the childminder and count wheels on trains. Children are confident to express their views and make choices in their play. Children make good progress from their starting points and show high levels of concentration as they play and learn. They are well prepared for the next stages in their learning.
