p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming play environment. She offers many activities, based on children's interests, which they are free to choose. This helps to support their developing curiosity and build on their independence. n The childminder has good partnerships with parents. They work together well to support children's learning and development. Parents are complimentary about the childminder's support that helps them continue their children's learning at home. n The childminder helps children to keep healthy. Younger children enjoy activities, such as listening to their heartbeat and learning how to care for their eyes and ears. n The childminder uses her knowledge and experience well to provide a high level of care. She reviews her practice and tries different ways to support children's progress. For example, the childminder's new books show children examples of keeping safe,

which the childminder then practises with the children to reinforce their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder has not yet raised the partnership working with other settings that children attend to the highest level. n The childminder is not consistent in her teaching of some areas of mathematics, such as exploring different shapes and sizes.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

n develop stronger partnerships with other settings that children attend, to achieve a more effective exchange of information about children's learning, to provide a fully consistent approach to teaching and learning n extend further children's early learning of mathematics, for instance, introducing them to differences in shapes and sizes.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She spoke to the children and the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. n The inspector discussed with the childminder how she helps to raise children's awareness of safety. n The inspector sampled documentation, including evidence of suitability checks and qualifications of the childminder, and some policies and procedures. n The inspector took account of parents' written views of their partnership with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder ensures that her knowledge on protecting children is current. For example, through completing training and accessing information online. She is aware of the signs of abuse and neglect, and her duty to prevent children being drawn into situations that put them at risk. She knows the local referral procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child. The childminder uses both her experience and desire to learn more to maintain a high level of care. For example, to support children's literacy further, she has rearranged her room with pictures as well as words so children can start to recognise letters.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children benefit from a good balance of planned, adult-led and child-initiated activities. The childminder organises activities well. She sensitively guides children and quickly adapts her plans when they make different choices. For example, the childminder sets up the farm with the aim to support language development but this quickly changes when children show a preference for other activities, such as golf and role play. The childminder continues with her focus on speech development, helping children to phrase their sentences clearly, which raises their ability to communicate well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well into the well-resourced environment. The childminder is kind and affectionate, and children are very happy and content in her care. The childminder gives children plenty of praise and encouragement, which encourages them to persevere in their chosen activities. For example, children practise putting golf balls into holes and are highly motivated with the childminder's enthusiasm. Children take part in activities that introduce them to annual festivals. This helps to raise their awareness and develop a healthy respect of others. Children behave well. They listen attentively to the childminder and are polite.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They are enthusiastic learners and enjoy developing their own ideas in their play. They recognise numbers and enjoy practising counting. They show an interest in books and they learn songs and rhymes, which supports their communication and literacy. Children understand they can do an activity in many ways and enjoy the experience of trying.
