p.1

The provision is good

n Staff offer a welcoming and nurturing learning environment. Children settle readily, play together in harmony, and have good attitudes to learning, overall. n Staff know how children learn through play. Children make good progress in relation to what they knew before they joined the nursery. They are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and development, including starting school. n Babies enjoy playing with pop-up toys and learn to find out how things work. They explore bubbles and clap their hands happily. n Children have access to a wide range of activities and resources to help them learn about their own cultures and other communities. For example, they actively take part in different festivals and taste food from different countries. n Staff share children's achievement with parents so that they can support their ongoing learning and development in the provision and at home. n Managers support staff well and consistently evaluate the quality of the provision to

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Staff do not always build on children's mathematical skills and strengthen their ability to solve problems independently. n Occasionally, some group activities do not help children to remain engaged in their learning.

Inspection activities n The inspector observed activities in all parts of the nursery, including the outdoor provision. n The inspector spoke to some members of staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection and held meetings with the management team. n The inspector carried out joint observations with the manager. n The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection and reviewed parents' written comments and suggestions. n The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and the nursery's policies and procedures, including those related to the suitability of staff.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The provider undertakes the required vetting checks on all staff to ensure that they are suitable to work with the children. Staff demonstrate a good knowledge of how to support children's welfare and safety, and are clear about the reporting procedures. Managers observe staff regularly and give them clear guidance to improve the quality of their practice further. Managers and staff check the progress of individual children to ensure that they consistently make good gains. Staff attend additional courses to improve their knowledge and skills. They establish good links with providers and relevant agencies to provide the best support for children. Managers act on the views and comments of staff, parents and others that help them to provide a good service. Parents speak highly of the caring and approachable staff and are pleased with the good progress their children make.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff collate relevant information from parents to assess what their children know and can do. They use this information, along with their ongoing observations, to plan for next steps in learning. Staff explain activities well to children and introduce them to new experiences. Children relate well to each other and respond appropriately to instructions. They choose different tools and build models purposefully. Children mix different coloured paints and observe how colours change when they mix. They engage well in songs and stories, and use the language of books to talk about their favourite characters and events. Staff hold discussions with children during play. For example, they repeat words and phrases, so that children of different ages learn new vocabulary and use them in their play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are good role models for the children. For example, they encourage good manners, such as 'please' and 'thank you'. Children learn to share resources fairly, take turns and behave well. Staff help children to adopt healthy lifestyles and meet their dietary requirements carefully. For instance, children enjoy nutritious meals cooked on the premises and understand that water keeps them hydrated. Children enjoy outdoor activities, fresh air and exercise. They are confident to climb the apparatus and ride bicycles and scooters safely. Staff undertake checks on outings, the premises and resources to keep children safe.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and any gaps in learning are closing. Babies learn to socialise with others. Children listen attentively and consider the views of others. Older children know some letters and sounds, and can write their names correctly. Children eagerly investigate resources, using magnifying glasses.
