p.1

The provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:

n The childminder is not aware of the manufacturer's safety guidance for the appropriate use of the trampoline to keep children safe. n The childminder does not provide children with a range of resources to help support children in developing a broader awareness of diversity. n The childminder's self-evaluation does not help her identify breaches in requirements and address all areas for improvement, to benefit children.

p.1

It has the following strengths

n The childminder uses observations and assessments well to plan clear next steps in children's learning and help them achieve positive outcomes in their learning and development. n The childminder and her assistant give children lots of attention and support to foster their emotional well-being and support them to feel secure. The childminder teaches children to be kind, caring, to listen, share and play cooperatively with each other. Children behave well. n The childminder has effective partnerships with parents. She provides clear information to help parents keep well informed about their child's learning. n The childminder provides plenty of interesting activities, which help to support children's achievements. All children make good progress in their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date improve risk assessments to ensure the manufacturer's safety requirements on how to use the trampoline are followed to help keep children safe. 30/11/2018

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times and evaluated activities with the childminder. n The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children. n The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies and children's records. n The inspector discussed the childminder's risk assessment with her.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management requires improvement

The childminder does not ensure her risk assessment include following the manufacturer's safety guidance on the use of the trampoline to help ensure children's safety. She explains that children are consistently supervised and she will ensure she understands how to use the trampoline safely to reduce potential accidents. The childminder understands the procedures to follow regarding concerns about a child's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has addressed the recommendation from her last inspection. She now provides a wide range of opportunities for children to explore and develop their ideas through play. However, her evaluation is not thorough enough to help her identify gaps in practice, such as the safe use of the trampoline. The childminder develops her own knowledge and skills well and encourages the same of her assistant, to improve their practice. This helps to extend children's experiences and

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides challenging and interesting activities to help children make the best possible progress. She provides children with good opportunities to support their early literacy skills. For example, older children enjoy sharing books and are keen to make marks. The childminder provides interesting experiences, which encourage children to develop their imaginations well. For instance, children play with small-world toys and pretend they are in a café. The childminder is skilled in questioning children and supports their critical thinking successfully. She effectively helps children to develop their mathematical understanding. For instance, she encourages children to count, and explore capacity and simple calculations.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement

The childminder completes daily risk assessments. However, she does not ensure this is fully effective to promote children's welfare. The childminder does not thoroughly support children to develop their awareness of each other and the wider community. For example, there are limited toys and resources that represent diversity. The childminder provides children with many opportunities to become independent. For example, younger children competently feed themselves. She encourages older children to manage everyday tasks, such as their personal care needs, for themselves. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles well. She encourages good hygiene, ensures children have daily exercise and provides them with healthy snacks and meals to enjoy.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, all children gain good skills for their next stages of learning, including nursery and school. They communicate freely and are self-motivated to learn. Children are confident and independent. They take pleasure in leading their own play. Younger children learn about different textures and transport, and older children curiously sort shapes by colours. Children listen attentively and respond well to questions. They develop their early reading and writing skills well. Children are happy. They enjoy each other's company and form early friendships.
