She has already identified ways to improve the excellent outdoor area even more. For example, she plans to adapt the garden so that children can fully maximise their learning throughout the winter months. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is extremely conscientious and keeps her knowledge fully up to date. She reads articles and books and attends a vast array of training. She is confident and very knowledgeable about child protection and wider safeguarding matters. The childminder shares her extensive knowledge of the children with the other settings that they attend. This helps to promote strong continuity of care and learning very effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder gathers a wealth of information from parents when children start at the setting. Her high-quality observations and assessments ensure that she has a comprehensive knowledge of the children's individual needs. She plans highly challenging activities that capture their interests superbly. For example, she demonstrates how to carefully thread small pieces of cereal onto a pipe cleaner to create a bird feeder. This actively contributes towards strengthening children's muscles in their fingers in preparation for early writing. The childminder utilises opportunities to foster children's physical skills very effectively. Babies practise standing up and crawling and are consistently motivated to move. Children enjoy music sessions and explore local parks, museums and nature reserves. The childminder works in partnership with parents to promote children's health extremely well. This helps to promote children's communication and literacy skills extremely successfully. Children consistently explore number, shape, measure and colour through the fantastic activities and routines. For example, they explore conkers of different sizes and count them into a pan. Babies show curiosity while they investigate a wide variety of technological toys. They press different notes on the keyboard and excitedly move their bodies to the music.
