p.1

The provision is outstanding

n The childminder has an exceptional understanding of her role and responsibilities. She implements her risk assessments, policies and procedures to support children's health, safety and well-being thoroughly. She is particularly mindful of the natural environment. For example, on the way home from school, due to limited footpaths and darker evenings, she uses a four-seat buggy to transport younger children and all children wear reflective coats to help ensure their safety. n The enthusiastic childminder has an exceptional awareness of children's starting points, gained through extensive discussions with parents and initial observations made on children when they start at the setting. She closely monitors children's developmental achievements and makes accurate assessments of their progress to ensure any gaps are closing. She is confident to take intervention if needed to support children needing additional help. All children make rapid progress in relation to their starting points.

p.1

The provision is outstanding

n The childminder demonstrates very warm interactions with children. Her outstanding teaching skills make a positive impact on how they learn. For example, she is very confident to support toddlers' social and emotional development and achieves this through role play with dolls. She encourages toddlers' participation as they sensitively care for 'babies', cradling and feeding them, changing nappies and putting them in a pushchair, for instance. Their play thoroughly supports how very young children form relationships with others alongside building their self-confidence and self-awareness. n Children are extremely motivated to join in with activities and have an exceptionally warm bond with the childminder. Children's behaviour is exemplary at all times. From a very young age, children understand the expectations and routines of the day and show high levels of respect for each other. n Parents are exceptionally positive about the childminder. They state she is 'extremely

reliable' and knows the children 'incredibly well'. Parents add that the proactive childminder is assertive in learning the languages children use at home, which makes a positive impact on their communication and speech and acquisition of language.

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children during play activities indoors and outdoors. n The inspector spoke with the childminder about her aims for activities and how she plans and monitors children's learning. n The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records. n The inspector discussed with the childminder how she has updated her skills and knowledge and how she evaluates the quality of her provision and children's learning. n The inspector spoke with the children and read written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder uses her extensive range of skills and experience to guide her practice. She is passionate about her role and extremely keen to continually improve. For example, extensive improvements to the outdoor environment offer a stimulating and exciting place for children to learn. The childminder states that regularly updating knowledge of safeguarding matters is of the utmost importance. For example, she has used focused research and training to ensure her understanding of all aspects of safeguarding matters and has reflected on how she embeds this knowledge into her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder works collaboratively with others sharing the care of children and with those involved with children needing additional support. She is proactive to ensure she maintains consistency for children's care as well as considering inventive ways to extend learning further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The dedicated childminder interacts purposefully, particularly in promoting children's language and communication. For example, she provides a vast range of musical instruments and encourages toddlers to play these and sing songs. From a very young age they can articulate choices and join in with repetitive verse. The childminder actively encourages older children's readiness for language and literacy as they practise writing their name. She warmly guides them to sound out the letters and write these. She helps them recognise letters and numbers displayed in the setting, particularly in the sensory areas of the outdoors. Planning for children's learning is accurate. The highly committed childminder is very effective in how she assesses children's next steps. She is focused in how she offers consistency for children's learning, but acknowledges even more could be achieved to strengthen these partnerships and her assessment process.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder is thoroughly supportive of children's independence and healthy lifestyles. Toddlers, for example, are able to identify and put on their own shoes or boots. They understand the importance of handwashing routines, and because nappy changing times are sensitive but enjoyable, they cooperate happily. Children benefit from a vast range of stimulating activities and resources available to them. The regular outdoor learning experiences make a huge impact on children's exploratory skills, confidence and well-being. From a very early age children learn about respect. For example, toddlers warmly respond with 'ta' as they ask for more strawberries.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are highly motivated to learn. For example, toddlers explore with curiosity during sensory play with pulses and learn new terms, such as 'pouring' and mixing'. They look over the fence to seek out horses and tractors, and enjoy operating controls of the toy vehicles, such as the digger and tractor. They develop dexterity and coordination as they tackle balancing beams. Older children confidently use language to describe the weather. They sort objects to show their mathematical awareness. All children demonstrate high attention spans and thrive in the setting. They show an extremely broad range of skills to support the next stages of their learning.
