The provision is outstanding

n The childminder's teaching is highly responsive to the individual children in her care. She is exceptionally proactive in obtaining feedback from children and parents to improve her practice. n The childminder undertakes skilful observations of children and uses these to plan a range of inspiring and engaging experiences for them. As a result, children are making outstanding progress and are well prepared for their eventual move to school. n The childminder develops excellent relationships with all parents. She provides them with a wealth of information about how well their children are developing and learning, and encourages them to contribute actively to their children's learning records. This helps to extend the children's learning, at the setting and at home. n The childminder provides an extremely child-centred and highly stimulating environment. Children explore a wide range of high-quality resources and activities that

motivates them to learn. She is extremely nurturing and responsive to their emotional needs. Children are confident communicators and show high levels of independence. n The childminder's incisive self-reflection successfully enables her to continue to improve and enhance the way she works. She attends a range of training courses and evaluates the impact this has on her setting. n The childminder works exceptionally well with her co-childminder and together, they form a highly effective team. They share practice and reflect together to make changes to their provision. p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder reflects effectively on the quality of her setting, involving children, her co-childminder and parents in the process. For example, she attended a course on children's play and has made changes to how she views the excellent experiences she provides. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder prioritises children's welfare and has a secure knowledge of how to keep children safe and how to recognise if a child may be suffering abuse. Children's safety is central to all she does. She undertakes thorough risk assessments and ensures children know how to keep themselves safe. For example, even the youngest children independently hold the handrail to go down the steps.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder promotes children's communication highly successfully. All children, including the youngest, are competent communicators and are confident to make their needs and wants known. The childminder uses her expert knowledge of the children to personalise their learning and uses every opportunity to challenge and extend children's thinking. For example, she uses the detailed information from parents about the activities the children attend outside of the setting, to offer learning opportunities to increase their physical development further. The childminder skilfully promotes children's creative skills through a highly impressive range of activities. For example, children delight in exploring the mud kitchen, and independently use the herb garden to enhance the potions and perfumes they have created, as they mix, spray, combine and cut ingredients. The childminder has plans to review how she develops children's thinking

skills through more open-ended discussion.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder uses her strong attachments to children to help them settle into the setting. She supports younger children who need more time to settle away from others. For example, she snuggles on the sofa with them and shares a story until they are ready to explore. Children's learning is significantly enhanced through the interesting outings the childminder arranges. For example, they visit the zoo and have had a tour of a nature reserve with a wildlife ranger. The childminder expertly supports children's independence in a variety of ways. Children's behaviour is exemplary. They happily play together, sharing resources and toys. Children are kind and respectful to the childminder and each other. For example, they pass resources to their friends when asked and use 'please' and 'thank you' spontaneously in their play.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children persevere and concentrate extremely well for their age. Older children are extremely confident in expressing their opinions, for example, when discussing what colours and sprinkles they want to use to decorate their biscuits. Children progress rapidly from their starting points and develop skills that prepare them for future learning. The outdoor environment is highly engaging and supports children's desire to explore risk and challenge. For example, younger children are able to use the swing and maintain momentum by rhythmically kicking their legs and delight in their achievements.
