The provision is inadequate

n The childminder has not taken sufficient action to improve all aspects of the provision since the last inspection. She has not considered an effective programme of professional development to help raise the quality of teaching to a good standard. n The childminder does not gather relevant information about children's skills from the start. She does not complete accurate assessments of children's progress. This means she does not have the correct information she needs to identify children's individual next steps and to plan for their future learning. n The childminder does not share assessment information, including the required progress check for children aged between two and three years, with parents. She does not help parents to extend children's learning at home. n The childminder does not work in partnership with other settings that children attend, or other relevant professionals, to support integrated working.

p.1

The provision is inadequate

n The childminder does not plan a mixture of adult-led and child-initiated learning experiences that take into account children's interests, abilities and learning styles. She does not raise outcomes for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate

The childminder does not provide children with good-quality learning and development experiences that raise outcomes. She has a childcare qualification but this has little positive impact on her teaching practice. She does not work in partnership with parents and other settings that children attend effectively. The childminder does not exchange information about children's progress and their next steps in learning. She does not find out what children already know and can do when they enter her care, or support parents to continue their children's learning at home. The childminder does not address weaknesses, which has led to a decline in her practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. This is because the childminder focuses her professional development on the safeguarding and welfare requirements. The childminder knows what to do if she has a concern about a child in her care. She now holds a paediatric

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder's monitoring of children's progress is not effective. She fails to observe and accurately assess children's abilities, including on entry. Although the childminder completes the progress check at age two, she does not share this information with parents to support integrated working. The childminder does not have a secure understanding of children's stages of development to plan precisely for their next steps in learning. She does not provide enough support to challenge children during their self- chosen play. Children return to the same familiar activities, such as threading circular cereal pieces onto ribbon. The childminder does not identify opportunities to extend and enhance children's learning.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

The childminder does not support children's learning and development effectively. She does not help children to learn about people, families and communities beyond their own. Despite this, she is warm and caring towards children. The childminder gives children praise, which supports their emotional well-being. Children behave well. The childminder offers children snacks and meals that include some fruit and vegetables. Children confidently practise their physical skills. They create their own dance movements indoors and sing familiar songs. The childminder provides opportunities for children to be independent in their self-care skills.

p.4

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Children do not make the progress they are capable of to be ready for their future education. Nevertheless, they do demonstrate some skills as they confidently count to ten. Children show how they can use their imagination, such as when they pretend to make strawberry and apple soup for their lunch.
