p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder knows children well. She arranges activities and resources that link to their interests and engage them effectively in play and learning. Children are happy and make good progress. n The childminder has a positive attitude towards self-evaluation. She is keen to further develop her good skills to further benefit learning outcomes for children. Since registering, she has developed the outdoor area to allow more space for role play and, a den area for children to explore. n The childminder works well with her co-childminder. They work collaboratively and share information about children's learning and development. n Parents are very happy with the care and learning opportunities that the childminder provides. They feel involved in their children's learning and know that they are safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Occasionally, the childminder does not consider the space she is using when carrying out activities. The environment can be a little disruptive to those that are trying to concentrate. n The childminder has not yet fully identified systems to enable parents to share information about their children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n consider how the environment where targeted learning is planned, is free from distractions such as loud noise to enable children to concentrate effectively. n further develop partnerships with parents to include effective systems for them to share information about their children's learning at home.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children and the activities that she carried out to help support their learning. n The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. n The inspector tracked children's progress and viewed their written assessments and observations. n The inspector viewed a selection of written documentation including, policies, suitability checks and training certificates. n The inspector viewed written references from parents to gain their feedback on the childminder and the service she provides.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder risk assesses the home meticulously before children arrive and, before they access the outdoor area. She talks to children about the importance of washing their hands, for example, 'you have just stroked the cat so we need to wash our hands before eating.' This helps to develop children's knowledge of how to keep themselves safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the procedures to follow should she have concerns about children's well-being and, the importance of recording and sharing information with other professionals. She ensures her knowledge is up to date and in line with current guidelines and legislation, for example, she works closely with her co-childminder and attends training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder assesses and monitors children's learning and development effectively. She uses an online system, which helps her link her activities to the areas of learning and, identify any gaps in their development. Children enjoy their time with the childminder and benefit from a range of learning opportunities that support their ongoing progress. Children have good opportunities to develop their mathematical knowledge and understanding of number. For example, when singing number rhymes, the childminder challenged them to add one more or take one away. This encouraged children to think and count out loud. Further extension included encouraging children to recognise printed number when completing a jigsaw puzzle.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy lots of opportunities for outdoor play. They laugh together as they run in the garden and take it in turns to push each other on the swing. The childminder makes the most of the local environment and often takes children to play parks, local woodland and the nearby town. Children behave well and as expected for their age. The childminder is a positive role model. She treats children with kindness and respect, which helps develop their understanding of how to treat others. She praises them enthusiastically for their good behaviour and provides gentle reminders when needed.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident, enjoy learning and being challenged. They are making good progress and developing the necessary skills needed for their eventual move to school. Children have built friendships with others and show kindness and compassion to each other. For example, they draw pictures for each other and find younger children's shoes for them. Children confidently give meaning to marks that they make and are proud of their achievements.
