p.1
The provision is inadequate
n The childminder leaves her assistant, who has not completed all the necessary suitability checks, unsupervised with children. She has not obtained permission from parents to leave her assistant in sole charge of children. The safety and well-being of children is compromised. n The childminder does not complete effective risk assessments within the environment to ensure hazards to children are quickly minimised. n The childminder does not make the best use of the space available to help children to easily select toys and extend their own learning and play. n Occasionally, the childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to build on younger children's communication and language skills.
p.1
It has the following strengths
n The childminder works well with parents and other early years settings that the children also attend. Information between them is regularly exchanged to support children's ongoing care and learning needs. n The childminder and her assistant foster children's confidence, self-esteem and emotional well-being well. Children are happy and settled. n The childminder's interaction with older children is purposeful. She supports their mathematical development well.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and Childcare Register the provider must: Due date ensure all adults working at the premises are suitable and safe to be working with children 05/12/2018

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is not effective. The childminder has failed to ensure that persons who work with her are suitable. Not all the required checks have been completed by Ofsted. At times, her assistant is left in sole charge of children while the childminder takes older children to and from school. The childminder has not ensured that all parents have given permission for her assistant to be left in sole charge of children. She does not complete risk assessments effectively. The childminder does not quickly identify and take action to remove all possible risks to children. For example, children stand on a book case which is leant against the wall and not secure. Children's safety is compromised. That said, the childminder and her assistant know what child protection procedures they must follow should they have a concern about a child in their care. The childminder reflects on parts of the service she provides and values the contributions that parents and her assistant

make. The childminder has good methods to monitor her assistant's professional development. Both the childminder and her assistant have completed all mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities building on the interests of children and to motivate them further in their play. For example, children enjoy small world play with a variety of dried cereal pieces. The childminder models thinking effectively to encourage the older children to share what they know. She uses mathematical language to describe different colours, sizes and shapes. Older children confidently count and quickly recognise when numbers are not put in sequence. Overall, the childminder monitors children's good progress closely. She takes appropriate action to narrow any gaps in their learning. However, sometimes she does not encourage younger children's communication and language development as well as she does with older children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The childminder has failed to meet legal requirements to keep children safe from harm. Furthermore, at times the childminder places too many toys and equipment in the space available. Some children find it more difficult to easily access toys of their choice or to extend their own learning. That said, children's behaviour is good. The childminder and her assistant quickly recognise when children become frustrated. They use consistent strategies to minimise any unwanted behaviour. The childminder ensures children's health is promoted effectively. Children enjoy healthy snacks and meals. They also wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children including those who are in receipt of funding, make good progress from their starting points and quickly gain new skills. They are well prepared for their future learning, such as starting school. Children share toys and learn to play together to support their social skills. Children are curious and active learners. They enjoy looking at books with the assistant to support their early literacy development.
