Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands the signs and symptoms that may cause concern about the welfare of a child in her care and knows the referral procedures to follow. She has made herself aware of how to identify children who may be at risk of exposure to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder strives constantly to improve her service. She is able to discuss how professional development has influenced her teaching and positive changes to help children learn. The childminder liaises with other early years providers to complement the experiences she provides for children in her home. She keeps parents very well informed about their children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows children's interests to keep them motivated and supports them to develop their skills in language and communication. For example, the childminder will often repeat words to the children to encourage them to learn new vocabulary. They look at favourite books together and the childminder asks simple questions that the children can respond to. She encourages role play with the children and uses language and mathematics as they play. For example, she asks the children to go shopping and encourages them to pretend to buy pizza from the supermarket. The childminder ensures that children have a safe space to play and explore.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment for children where they settle quickly. She works closely with parents to provide continuity in their children's development. The childminder is a positive role model and helps children to share and care for each other. This encourages the children to feel valued as they are praised for their good behaviour. Children carry out simple acts of self-care which support their independence. For example, they confidently find their own plate and eat lunch using a fork and spoon. The childminder encourages healthy eating and provides nutritious snacks and meals for the children.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Young children learn to imitate and explore words and sounds, for example, as they sing songs and rhymes. Children enjoy making a boat out of a card and singing 'Row, row, row your boat'. Children enjoy looking at books and pick them up at any time. All children gain a wide range of skills which helps prepare them for the next stage of their learning. For example, children behave well and are motivated to learn. Children enjoy physical activities, for example, as they use the slide outside or climb the stairs unaided.
