Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good, secure knowledge about how to protect children from harm and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder thoroughly risk assesses her home and teaches children how to keep themselves safe. The childminder routinely involves parents and children in her self-evaluation processes, through discussions and questionnaires. Comments from parents demonstrate the high regard they have for the childminder as they call her a 'superstar'.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes frequent observations of the children to assess their abilities and current stages of development. She shares this information with parents and provides them with ideas of how to continue their child's learning at home. For example, she has provided a pumpkin that parents can help the child carve at home. The children excitedly talk about their plans and how they will 'make a pumpkin owl'. The childminder supports the children's physical skills well. She provides activities to help them improve their coordination, such as a ping-pong ball game that involves throwing and catching. The childminder works effectively with other providers that work with the children, to aid children's continuity in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have good manners and are very polite. The childminder is a positive role model and encourages children to be kind and helpful. The childminder supports children's well- being and sense of belonging. For example, she displays their artwork and crafts in the playroom. The childminder ensures children learn about healthy lifestyles and they spend time outside every day to take part in physical exercise. The childminder provides a wide range of opportunities that helps children learn about their own community and the differences and similarities of others. For example, children make lights when learning about Divali.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop highly effective skills that help them prepare for the next stages in their learning. They enjoy a wide range of learning opportunities that covers all areas of learning. Children are inquisitive learners and are eager to have a go at new challenges. They enjoy looking at books and learn new descriptive words, such as 'squidgy', 'rough' and 'shiny'.
