The provision is good
n Children make consistently good rates of progress from their staring points. The childminder collects detailed information about a child when they first start at the setting and uses this to record their starting points. The childminder continues to monitor and track children's progress to ensure they receive the individual support they need in their learning. n The childminder works collaboratively with parents to ensure children's next steps and learning targets are focused precisely on what they need to learn next. Children are well prepared for their next stages of learning. n Children benefit from the wide range of resources that they independently choose during play. Children are engaged and focused in their learning. For example, they develop their mathematical understanding as they excitedly explore various shapes when playing treasure hunt board games with the childminder and their friends.
p.1
The provision is good
Children are confident and happy learners. n The childminder continuously seeks the views of parents and children to help her evaluate the quality of her setting. She uses this information in her improvement plans to maintain the already good-quality service and care she provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n Sometimes, the childminder does not allow children enough time to think about and answer her questions, to develop their critical-thinking skills and own ideas. n Although the childminder evaluates the quality of her setting well, she does not use it to focus more precisely on reviewing the quality of her teaching to ensure this is consistently to a high level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder organises her setting well. She has implemented effective policies and procedures to ensure children's safety and well-being are considered well. For example, she completes detailed risk assessments to ensure all areas of the premises children access are safe and suitable. The childminder understands her responsibility to safeguard and protect children from harm and knows to take swift action should she have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder provides coaching to her assistant, which helps to ensure all those who work with children have a good understanding of how to meet children's individual and welfare needs. The experienced and knowledgeable childminder completes her own research and networks with other childcare providers within the local authority to ensure she remains informed about any changes to her requirements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans exciting and challenging activities that help to support children's physical development and early writing skills. For example, children use large pincers to grip toy spiders from a giant spider web. Children persevere with the task and delight as they count and compare the amount of spiders they have collected. The childminder praises children for their good work. The childminder has high expectations of what children can achieve. She records precise observations of children's learning and monitors their progress well. The childminder shares this information with parents and other professionals involved in the children's care. She considers the activities children complete at other settings they attend and incorporates these into her provision and activity plans. This helps to ensure children receive a consistent approach and the individual support they need in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very confident and at ease in the childminder's home. They have a wonderful relationship with the childminder, who knows their individual personalities very well. Children learn the importance of keeping themselves healthy from an early stage. They benefit from the well-planned and resourced outdoor area. Children develop their physical skills as they learn to ride bicycles unaided and use climbing equipment in the childminder's garden. Children benefit from the many outings they take in the local area to visit horses and farm animals in nearby fields with the childminder. They develop their independence as they complete self-care routines independently, such as washing their hands before mealtimes. Children thoroughly enjoy the large selection of healthy meals the childminder prepares for them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make consistently good rates of progress and are well prepared for their next stages of learning and eventual move to school. Children are self-motivated and display high levels of excitement as they play games with the childminder and their friends. Children develop their early reading skills as they listen intently to the stories the childminder reads with them. Children are happy and settled.
