p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder develops very warm and trusting relationships with children and their parents. Children are very happy and settled in her care. n The childminder works with other professionals to ensure that children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported. n Children are cared for in an extremely bright and stimulating environment which offers an excellent selection of resources and activities. n The childminder helps parents understand how they can support their child's learning at home. n Children are encouraged by the childminder to participate in enjoyable activities which increase their confidence and self-esteem.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not actively promote children's awareness of healthy lifestyles and healthy eating. n The childminder does not clearly summarise children's progress and development between the age of two- and three-years-old for parents.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n use information from the progress reports completed when the child is aged between two and three years to clearly provide parents with a summary regarding their child's prime areas of development n provide more opportunities to promote children's awareness about why they need a healthy diet and exercise.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector looked at areas of the home that are used for childminding. n The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's learning journals and assessments, evidence of the suitability of adults working and living on the premises and a sample of the childminder's written procedures. n The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good, broad understanding of safeguarding and the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child in her care. The childminder has completed a wide range of training since her last inspection to improve her knowledge and benefit the children. The childminder has robustly evaluated her service, taking into account feedback from the children and their parents. Consequently, she has made significant improvements to the learning environment to stimulate children's interest and meet their individual care and learning needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Overall, the childminder accurately assesses children's progress from their observed starting points and uses this information to help her plan what they need to learn next. She gets to know the children very well and, consequently, builds on their individual interests and developmental needs. The childminder is good at following the children's lead and adapting activities to reflect on the next steps in their learning. When they show an interest in the water play, the childminder adapts the activity, focusing on letter recognition. Children find letters in the water before moving on to practise writing their name. Despite completing a progress report when children are aged between two and three years, the childminder does not provide a clear summary of children's progress for parents. The childminder supports children's communication and language development very well. She continuously holds interesting conversations with the children and

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder forms close bonds with children which help them to feel safe and secure in her care. She follows parents' wishes regarding routines and supervises children closely to ensure their safety. The childminder helps children to move confidently around the environment and promotes their independence to prepare them for the next stage in their learning. She constantly praises them and is a good role model for children to learn from. Although the childminder provides a healthy range of food and snacks, she does not always provide enough opportunities to help children explore why it is important to eat healthy food or participate in exercise.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and development based on their individual starting points. Children are enthusiastic and inquisitive learners and proudly show what they know during their play. Children's mathematical development is supported through everyday routines with constant counting and discussions about when objects are bigger or smaller. The childminder demonstrates that children are well prepared for starting school. She ensures children know about their new learning environment and are physically ready, helping them to learn how to put on their clothes and behave appropriately.
