Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This privately run children’s home is contracted to provide a local authority with services. The home provides care and accommodation for up to four children or young people. The manager has been in post since May 2018 and has applied for registration with Ofsted. The status of the manager’s application was discussed at this inspection. The current application is awaiting a response from a local authority and from referees.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 27 and 28 September 2018. Following the inspection, a notice to restrict the accommodation at the home was served on the provider.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The notice to restrict accommodation is effective from 28 September 2018 until 20 December 2018 inclusive.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This visit was to determine the action taken to reduce the risks that were identified at the previous inspection visit, and whether any new admissions had taken place.

p.1

This monitoring visit

There had been no additional children or young people admitted to the home following the notice being served on the provider.

p.1

This monitoring visit

After the inspection, the provider liaised with the placing authority to review and update the current risks and needs of all the young people placed at the home. Risk assessments were updated to reflect the current risks and the strategies that are in place to reduce risks.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Some of the risks previously showing on assessments were reduced or removed to reflect the young people’s needs and current level of behaviour. Inspection report for children’s home – monitoring visit: SC454266 2 One young person is awaiting a formal assessment. This will ensure that those involved in his care are fully aware of his needs, which can then be reflected in the levels of supervision and support he requires. The assessment will also support the manager to identify and secure an education placement for the young person.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The staff team has undertaken a significant amount of training since the last inspection. For some of the staff this training has been new information, and for others it has refreshed or updated their knowledge and understanding. Training has taken place to improve the knowledge of staff in relation to sexually harmful behaviours, self-harm, ligatures (including their removal) and conducting effective room searches. The manager has taken some steps to validate the learning and how this is used in practice.

p.2

This monitoring visit

At the time of this visit, some of the training had taken place very recently and the inspector was unable to fully validate the training with the staff team. As a result, the notice to restrict accommodation at the home remains in place.
