Information about this children’s home
This home is owned by a private organisation. It specialises in providing planned and managed therapeutic interventions for children who have suffered early life trauma as the victims of serious abuse and/or profound neglect.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At the interim inspection in August 2018, the home was judged to have declined in effectiveness. Regulatory concerns from the interim inspection included:
p.1
This monitoring visit
There had been no registered manager in the home since December 2017. Poor matching of young people’s placements had led to young people’s placements quickly breaking down. Staff did not have the necessary skills and knowledge to keep young people safe. There was inadequate risk assessment surrounding the storage of young people’s medication. One member of staff’s poor practice had gone unchallenged. Furthermore, there was no referral to any external agency. Staff had not ensured that return to home interviews had taken place when a young person had gone missing. Managers had not ensured that repair work to fire doors was completed without delay. The manager’s overview of care practice had failed to secure the views of stakeholders. The staff rota did not clearly show which staff members were on duty. addressing the previous concerns, there have been no young people living in the home since 20 September 2018. This means that the many plans to make improvements have not yet been fully embedded. As a result, regulatory shortfalls from the interim inspection in August 2018 are repeated and will be reviewed at a further inspection visit.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The compliance notice issued at the last inspection regarding staff training has been met. Staff have undergone a variety of training courses in subject areas that included safeguarding, fire safety, missing from care and understanding the risks surrounding child sexual exploitation. This now means that staff have the necessary knowledge and skills that they require to help them to keep young people safe.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers are currently taking action on the most recent fire report. This details the work that is required to make the home a safe place to live in. The provider has offered reassurance to Ofsted that no young people will be admitted to the home until this work has been undertaken. Ofsted will continue to monitor the progress of this work.
p.2
This monitoring visit
A new manager has been appointed and is in the process of submitting her application to Ofsted. The new manager is now obtaining the views of stakeholders to help her to evaluate the service.
