It has the following strengths
n Partnerships with parents are established. Staff gather information about their children's needs and interests and they use this well to build on children's previous experiences. n Staff promote children's understanding of diversity and the wider world. Children learn about a range of cultural festivals and traditional events. They are learning to understand and respect one another's similarities and differences. n Children demonstrate secure and affectionate relationships with staff. They are self- assured individuals and they behave very well.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. Recruitment and vetting procedures are not rigorous. The provider has not closely monitored the recruitment process to ensure that all staff have undergone the required suitability checks. There are no records held to demonstrate that Disclosure and Barring Service checks have been obtained for new staff. Furthermore, staff with pre-existing checks, obtained through other organisations, have not had their suitability verified. The process for checking staff's ongoing suitability is weak. The provider does not carry out regular checks on all staff, particularly between holiday clubs, to ensure they remain suitable for their role. Children's safety is significantly compromised. However, the manager does ensure that unvetted staff do not have unsupervised access to children. The manager has not been provided with effective supervision or monitoring, which has a significantly impact on her understanding of the

responsibilities of her role. Staff have received training in safeguarding, enabling them to identify the possible indicators of abuse. They know what action to take if they had child protection concerns.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The manager is well qualified and an experienced teacher. She observes and supports staff in their role and provides them with effective coaching and mentoring through supervisory meetings. Staff plan for a wide range of activities that targets children's interests and complements their learning well. Children are motivated and they confidently join in with the activities. They have great fun making interesting 'potions' and shriek with delight as they watch the mixtures bubble and fizz. Children learn about capacity and weight as they measure out the ingredients. They experiment with words and rhymes as they create their very own spells. Quieter activities provide children with opportunities to rest and play games that support and build on their prior learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The weaknesses in leadership and management significantly compromise children's welfare. Despite this, children are cared for by supportive, friendly and kind staff. There is an enjoyable atmosphere at the club and children are happy and settled. Staff support children's physical health. Children enjoy regular opportunities to exercise indoors and outside. They competently use the climbing equipment and apparatus and learn to assess and manage risks. Children demonstrate good independence skills. For example, they cut up their own fruit at snack time and make independent choices in their play.
