The provision is good
n Children are happy, settled and confident in the childminder's care. The childminder provides them with a wide range of activities and learning experiences, which supports children well to make good progress. n The childminder uses self-evaluation successfully to identify areas for improvement. For example, she is looking at ways to develop the outdoor area to provide more opportunities for children's imaginative play. n Partnerships with parents are very strong. The childminder ensures there is daily communication and exchanges of information about children's learning and activities. n The childminder shares warm and close relationships with the children, which supports their emotional development effectively. Children follow the good example the childminder sets, they are kind towards one another and polite. They behave well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently use the information from her observations of the youngest children's learning, to plan even more precisely, so that all activities keep all children successfully engaged. n The childminder shares information with some other settings that children attend. However, she is not regularly aware of current achievements or next steps for all children, to ensure planning for future progress is consistent.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident to recognise the signs or symptoms, which may be a cause for concern. She keeps her knowledge of safeguarding up to date and has good knowledge of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder uses her experience well, to widen the experiences that she offers to children in her care. For example, she has used her knowledge well to provide children with more sensory experiences. The childminder uses effective systems to monitor and track children's progress successfully and address any gaps in their learning quickly. When working with an assistant, the childminder monitors her practice well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well. Overall, she plans and provides enjoyable activities to extend their learning successfully. For example, children enthusiastically choose a wooden letter, correctly identify the sound that it makes and place it on top of a box. The childminder involves older children well in a story. They identify and count the number of animals and show the childminder how many they have by holding up the correct number of fingers. Younger children enjoy posting balls into a hole and watch with excitement as it rolls down the slope.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming home and daily opportunities to play outdoors and engage in physical activities. For example, children enjoy trips to see and find out about wildlife at the wetland centre. They develop good social skills, as they mix with children at activity groups. The childminder supports children's good health well. For example, she provides them with and encourages children to make healthy choices, and teaches them to follow good hygiene routines successfully. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement for their efforts and achievements, which boosts their confidence and self-esteem effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children gain a wide range of skills for their future learning and moving on to school. Children are very independent. They pour water from a jug into a cup and have many opportunities to make choices. Older children recognise and name colours in English and Spanish. They name shapes and count confidently in routines and activities. Children listen well and follow instructions. For instance, they help to tidy away resources and mix ingredients to make banana bread. They share resources and take turns well. Older and younger children play harmoniously together.
