Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to identify and respond to concerns relating to children's welfare and the conduct of adults. She regularly refreshes her training to keep up to date with changes to safeguarding and child protection legislation. The childminder regularly reviews her risk assessments to minimise potential risks to children at her home and on outings. The childminder works closely alongside parents to identify what children need to learn next. Parents are very complimentary about the service the childminder provides. They feel she provides a variety of learning experiences for children and has developed close, positive relationships with them.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands how children learn. She uses information from parents, other professionals and her own observations to provide a wide variety of enjoyable and stimulating activities. The childminder successfully identifies children's next steps in learning and ensures that they have opportunities to develop in all areas of learning. Babies develop their physical skills in readiness for crawling as they stretch to reach interesting electronic and musical toys. They smile and wave their arms as the childminder sings different songs and action rhymes. Children enjoy constructing towers with wooden blocks. They carefully stack the blocks, naming the colours they know and using some number language in sequence. The childminder uses praise and encouragement, which helps children to persist.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are social and welcoming to visitors. They bring visitors toys to play with, and wave hello or goodbye. They have a secure attachment to the childminder. Children are able to part easily from their parents, ready to explore the variety of resources the childminder offers them. The childminder has created a welcoming and accessible learning environment. Children follow their own interests and access the resources they would like to play with. The childminder regularly takes children out into the local community and to playgroups. She provides and plans experiences to help broaden children's understanding of the wider world. Children are encouraged to play safely and develop healthy habits. They are reminded to drink lots of water through the day and the childminder is a positive role model in this regard.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing a variety of skills that help to prepare them for their future learning. Babies develop their listening and attention skills as they carefully follow gestures and actions from the childminder when she sings. Young children learn to persist with more difficult tasks and begin to use number language in their play. They show an interest in books and begin to talk about what they can see on each page of the story.
