The provision is good
n The childminder provides a homely environment where children are very relaxed, comfortable and happy in their play. Children behave well and they develop friendships with one another. n The childminder is well qualified and uses her knowledge and skills to teach children well. Children make good progress in their learning and develop key skills to help them to become ready for school. n Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents report that the childminder regularly shares information about children's achievements and future targets. This helps them to support children's learning further at home. n The childminder has good links with staff from other settings that children attend. She works well with them and they exchange pertinent information about children's care and learning. This helps to promote a consistent approach to meeting children's needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not consistently seek a range of ongoing professional development opportunities to help to raise her good teaching skills to an even higher level.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder assesses risks to ensure her home is kept safe and secure. She has recently refreshed her safeguarding training to make sure she has up-to-date knowledge of relevant procedures and important changes. She is confident in recognising signs of abuse and knows how to report any concerns to help to keep children safe and protected. The childminder meets with other childminders to share resources and reflect on practice. She welcomes feedback from parents and she identifies some areas that she wants to improve further, such as developing her skills in using technology.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder talks to parents to gather information about children's abilities when they first start. She uses this information to plan activities that support children's needs and interests. The childminder monitors children's progress well. This enables her to identify any emerging gaps in their learning and, where necessary, work with parents to seek external support. The childminder gives children the freedom to explore in their own time. She engages children in conversations to encourage their language skills and organises activities that help them to learn about nature. For example, she places food items outside to entice wildlife into the garden, and children become very excited when they spot two squirrels. This prompts interesting discussions about what animals like to eat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Parents report that the childminder is very compassionate and reassuring. This enables children to form strong bonds with the childminder and feel secure in her care. The environment is well organised to enable children to select resources of their choice easily. The childminder reminds children to behave well and make good choices as they play. Children display friendly behaviour as they make up their own games and invite others into their play. The childminder promotes healthy eating and encourages active play in the garden. She teaches children about safety. One example of this is when she reminds children not to climb on the furniture.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are keen learners who are motivated to explore independently. They play very well together and clearly enjoy each other's company. Children investigate natural items that help them to learn about autumn. They develop their mark-making skills, for instance, when they make dinosaur footprints in the dough. Children enjoy country walks and regular trips to the farm, library and shops. They begin to show an understanding of simple mathematics as they start to count and recognise big and small objects.
