The provision is good
n Staff work well in partnership with parents to promote a continuous, two-way flow of information. They understand the importance of working in partnership with other professionals and share information with other settings that children attend to promote continuity. n Staff foster positive relationships with children. They get to know children well and listen carefully to what they say. Older children are encouraged to resolve differences themselves. For example, they bring staff a timer to monitor and tell them when it is their turn to play with their favourite toy. n Staff provide activities and experiences that they know children will enjoy and follow their interests. Children enjoy playing with staff and often approach their key person to play with them. n Children are curious and motivated to learn. They develop a variety of skills which helps to prepare them for their future learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The manager's current systems for monitoring children's progress do not enable her to rigorously evaluate children's progress and implement more robust support to help them catch up, if required. n Staff do not always plan group activities effectively enough to make the best possible use of opportunities to support and extend the learning of individual children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Staff have received appropriate training to underpin their knowledge and understanding of how to identify and report concerns. They are aware of wider child protection issues. Staff ensure that the setting is secure and older children are made aware of how to manage potential risks and hazards. The manager understands what the nursery does well and how they can develop. She proactively seeks input from parents, other settings and children to help form her action plans. Parents feel that staff know their children well, are respectful of their preferences and provide a good range of learning experiences that supports children's overall progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff are suitably qualified and experienced. They understand how children learn and, overall, activities reflect this. Babies develop their physical skills as they stretch and balance, reaching for toys that interest them. Younger children begin to play imaginatively, mixing leaves in bowls and feeding the dolls. Older children enjoy investigating different objects. They explore in the forest, finding printed letters in the environment and try to work out how to open a pumpkin using different tools. They talk about what the pumpkin feels like and try to guess how many seeds staff have in their hands. Children use number language appropriately and staff model new words to help broaden children's vocabularies.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Babies benefit from warm interactions with staff. Staff respond to babies' cues about their needs and routines. Babies eagerly explore the interesting learning space created for them with support from staff. Young children happily go on visits to the pre-school room to bond with their new key person and play alongside older children. Children have numerous opportunities to develop their physical skills and engage in exercise. They enjoy using bikes and other ride-on toys in the outdoor area or climbing and balancing in the forest. Staff create opportunities for children to learn about the wider world. They use children's home languages appropriately and create an inclusive, welcoming environment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in learning from their individual starting points. Babies and young children explore the environment with interest. Older children respond well to staff's instructions and concentrate well on their self-chosen play. Some children can identify initial letter sounds or recognise written letters. Staff give children opportunities to develop the correct pencil grip and form some letters.
