p.1

The provision is good

n The children have strong relationships with the childminder. They feel safe and secure in her care. They happily ask for help when they need it and, due to their strong sense of self-belief, are confident to express their thoughts if they are not happy. n Assessment is thorough and creates a continuous picture of children's individual achievements, which the childminder uses to plan and support children accurately to take their next steps in learning. This ensures that all children make at least good progress in their learning and some make even better progress in some aspects. n The childminder takes good account of co-worker's and parents' views when considering how to make her provision even better. n The childminder has a secure understanding of all safeguarding matters and implements good strategies to help children build their self-esteem and resilience.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Progress reviews do not consistently consider whether boys learn as well as girls, or if different groups of children are doing as well as others.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n ensure that progress reviews regularly consider different groups of children so that planning can take account of any gaps in learning for particular groups of children.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector considered written feedback as well as discussions with parents. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder about children's learning and how she reflects on the quality of her service. n The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children. n The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's assessment records. n The inspector viewed all areas of the home that are used for childminding.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder makes effective use of supervision meetings and observations of her practice from her co-worker, to reflect on provision and extend her skilled teaching even further. She attends training to increase her knowledge of safeguarding. She has a clear knowledge of when a child may be at risk and the correct actions to take to protect them. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder works closely with parents and other providers to exchange good-quality information when children attend more than one setting and in preparation for their move to school, to ensure continuity in their care. Positive relationships are in place with parents. They value the ongoing information shared by the childminder, and the individualised care she provides for the children based on their needs and routines from home.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children consistently widen their skill base due to the considered and carefully matched teaching methods used by the childminder. Her precise demonstrations and carefully matched explanations enable children to perfect and extend skills rapidly as part of a carefully planned programme for their learning. For example, children learn how to use tweezers for the first time and, within a short period, are able to move pompoms independently from one container to another. Children are delighted with their achievements and ask for more challenging items to try.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have a secure grasp of the daily routine and know what is coming next. They enthusiastically join in with tidying away the resources and know where they go. They then collect the mats in preparation for group time and sit down before the childminder asks them to do so. Children enjoy healthy snacks and hot nutritious meals cooked by the childminder. The childminder maximises mealtimes to continue children's development. Her clear explanations and demonstrations fully support children to learn how to use a knife and fork, and even the youngest ones successfully use them. Children learn to keep themselves safe with timely reminders from the childminder to only put the fork in their mouths.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident communicators and happily initiate conversations with their peers as well as the childminder. They listen carefully and are able to follow two-step instructions with ease as they 'tidy up and get ready for outdoor play'. Children count accurately up to four when checking how many children are present, and learn to sort and match by shape and colour. They are very well prepared with the skills they need for future learning.
