The provision is good

n Children demonstrate strong bonds with the childminder and her daughter. They welcome the childminder's sensitive interaction in their play and enjoy singing and dancing together. Children snuggle up to the childminder as they become tired. n The childminder plans a wide range of experiences consistently based on children's interests to help them to make good progress. She organises visits to a woodland to enable children to re-enact their favourite stories. Children gather long sticks to build a den. They also use their imagination to search for characters and develop good physical skills as they run freely and jump in muddy puddles. n The childminder forms secure partnerships with parents. She involves them in every aspect of their child's learning and care. Parents are very pleased with the service that the childminder provides. They say that their children and themselves 'feel like an extension of the childminder's family'.

She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. n The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. n The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided and discussed with the childminder how she reflects on the service she provides.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of possible signs that indicate that children may be at risk of harm. She knows how to take swift action to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder follows strict procedures to help to ensure that children remain safe in her care. She is dedicated to her role and is keen to continue to build on her knowledge. The childminder liaises closely with a network of other childminders to share good practice. This has recently enhanced her understanding of providing children with an even wider range of experiences outdoors to strengthen their early writing skills. The childminder carefully reviews children's progress to swiftly address any possible gaps in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's genuine praise motivates children to persevere at challenging tasks. Children work out, through trial and error how to connect the ends of two toy magnetic fishing rods together. The childminder places a strong emphasis on supporting children's communication and language. She sensitively helps them to correctly pronounce the words they attempt to say. The childminder also introduces children to new descriptive words, such as 'slippery' and 'wet', as they immerse themselves exploring the sensation of cooked spaghetti in their hands. The childminder's effective use of questioning supports children's thinking skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a positive role model. She consistently encourages children to use good manners. Children confidently carry out age-appropriate tasks. For example, they help the childminder to tidy away the activities they have finished playing with and prepare the table for lunch. The childminder supports children to develop friendly relationships with larger groups of children. For instance, she arranges to meet up with other childminders and takes children to a varied range of organised groups.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are independent. They select their own toys and activities and make good attempts to pull up their own clothing after having their nappy changed. Children express a keen interest in books. They show good concentration and listening skills and join in with repeated refrains as the childminder reads them familiar stories. Children understand the concept of time as they recall experiences with their family. They persevere to complete complex puzzles. Children gain the skills needed to help prepare them for their future learning at school.
