p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge and understanding of child protection matters, including wider issues, such as 'Prevent' duty. She adheres to robust procedures to keep children safe, indoors and outdoors. She teaches children about personal safety exceptionally well. For example, she teaches them to put on safety straps for themselves before using the large swing. The childminder recognises that she could do even more to use training opportunities to enhance her already outstanding teaching practice. The childminder develops excellent partnerships with other local settings. This supports excellent continuity of care for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Teaching is inspirational. When introducing new challenges, the childminder explains to children what to do and demonstrates each step using clear, age-appropriate language. She allows children time to practise each step before the next challenge. For example, children identify the need for a scoop during an activity and are encouraged to think about what items they could use. The childminder teaches them, step-by-step, how to create scoops with cardboard and other recycled materials. Children are eager to share their knowledge of the world around them. For example, they discuss, in great detail, how and why spiders weave webs. They are fascinated as they explore the pattern of each spider web. Children learn about shape and number as they identify different shapes and count how many there are.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder creates an exceptionally nurturing environment, where she values and respects children. She has extremely high expectations of all children and she reminds children to be polite and kind. Young children are highly independent, for example, as they fetch and put on their shoes and coats ready for outside play. Older children support younger children extremely well and include them in all aspects of their play. The childminder makes extensive use of her local area to support and further enrich children's learning. Children develop extremely good levels of physical coordination in their large- and small-muscle skills, through a range of highly challenging activities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children display great confidence and enthusiasm in this exceedingly stimulating environment. Older children learn to identify different emotions and talk about their feelings. Younger children confidently explore the array of learning activities on offer. They examine plastic bottles filled with different materials, which they shake excitedly. Children make consistently high rates of progress and are exceptionally well prepared for the next stages of their learning, including the transition to school.
