Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a strong awareness of child protection issues. He can identify signs and symptoms that children may be at risk of harm. The childminder understands about the work of the Local Safeguarding Children Board. The childminder supervises children well as they play. Along with his co-childminder, the childminder evaluates his work and makes improvements. Since the last inspection the childminder has enhanced the main play room which has helped to ensure good outcomes for children. The childminder works collaboratively with parents to provide children with consistency in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows what children's interests are. He plans activities that feed into these and this helps children to sustain their attention as they learn. The childminder encourages children to mix paint in see-through bags to create a stained glass window effect with stencils. They talk about the changing colours, comparing the paint to flames. This helps to provoke discussion and children proudly show their finished artwork. The childminder makes accurate observations of children's development. He knows how to help them to make good progress as he identifies what their next steps in learning are effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are secure, settled and display high levels of self-esteem. They have good attachments to the childminder and his co-childminder as they play. Children learn about good hygiene and understand ways that they can look after their own well-being. They dress themselves in readiness for playing outdoors and are independent in getting their waterproof clothing on. Children play cooperatively together, share and take turns. They talk about their ideas and show a caring attitude towards the dolls that they look after. Children enjoy this imaginative play and it promotes discussion between them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have a wide vocabulary and talk about their ideas as they play. They show an awareness of good health practices and know why they need to wash their hands. They help to prepare their snack showing increasing control when using tools, such as knives. Children are confident and have high self-esteem. They make good progress in their learning and are eager to join in with activities. Children are developing the skills they need in readiness for starting school.
