Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the signs and symptoms that may give her cause for concern about the welfare of a child in her care. She knows the procedure to follow if she has any concerns. She has made herself aware of how to identify any children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder carries out regular and detailed risk assessments. She uses these effectively to help her keep children safe. For example, the premises and resources children use are kept clean and any hazards are quickly identified and promptly removed. The childminder provides parents with daily information about their children's care, learning and development. She has identified ways to enhance this even further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy using resources which support them in learning about technology. They smile and laugh as they excitedly press buttons and listen to the sounds and music the toys make. The childminder is skilled at supporting children's communication and language skills. Children's physical development is supported, for instance, as they use a nearby green space. The very youngest children are encouraged to practise their emerging walking. The childminder gently entices them to independently move around the room. She provides well-directed praise so that children understand what they have achieved. The childminder regularly observes children and uses this information effectively to identify their interests and carefully plan what they need to learn next.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are settled and eager to learn. They are secure in their relationship with the childminder and turn to her for help and comfort, if needed. Children enjoy carrying out simple, manageable tasks. The very youngest children enjoy helping to tidy up. Children learn to care for their resources and environment. They carry out simple acts of self-care as they wash their hands before lunch and clean their own faces after eating. The childminder plans regular opportunities for children to explore the local area. For example, chidlren enjoy picnics in local parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are self-motivated and confident. They are sociable and enjoy the company of others. They independently access resources and direct their own learning. Children share their resources and activities. They enjoy using their developing skills. For example, they delight in moving to music, stacking cups and knocking them down. Children are curious and keen to explore. They carefully search for resources which have moved out of sight. They are prepared well for the next stage in their learning.
