Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk from harm and knows how to report any concerns about children's welfare. She assesses risks effectively to help ensure her home is a safe, suitable environment for children. The childminder reviews her practice to identify where she can further improve her provision and enhance children's learning. For example, she has introduced a wider range of physical activities, including swimming, to help children become more confident in their abilities. The childminder exchanges ideas for good practice with other childminders and seeks advice from her childminding coordinator to help strengthen her professional skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn and develop. She observes and speaks to the children to find out about their interests and individual learning needs. This helps her to provide resources and activities that engage the children and support their ongoing development well. For example, she ensures that children have opportunities to practise making marks, to support their emerging writing skills. The childminder develops effective partnerships with teachers at schools that children attend. She exchanges relevant information about children's care and learning. This helps to ensure good continuity for the children. Children demonstrate a keen interest in stories. They enjoy looking at books independently and memorise words and phrases from familiar stories, which they enjoy pretending to read to their dolls.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder understands how to raise children's awareness of potential risks and beginning to keep themselves safe. For instance, she teaches them how to cross roads safely and discusses the importance of wearing seat belts when travelling in cars. She has robust procedures in place to help children develop good hygiene practices, such as washing their hands before they eat. The childminder develops close and caring bonds with children. Children demonstrate that they are happy and secure in her welcoming home. For example, they are comfortable to interact with visitors and confident they can seek reassurance from the childminder if needed.
