p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder has worked hard to improve her provision significantly since her last inspection. She has met the actions raised and demonstrates good commitment to continue to improve the quality of the service she provides. n The childminder builds strong partnerships with parents and other professionals. She keeps parents well informed about their children's day and development. This helps to promote consistency in children's care and learning. n Children are happy and settled. They enjoy the company of the childminder and her assistants, and develop warm and secure relationships. They also develop strong bonds with the other children and are supported to share and take turns effectively. Children show high levels of emotional well-being. n The childminder provides a broad range of interesting and enjoyable activities that captures children's interest in learning and engages them well. Children make good

progress in relation to their starting points. n The childminder and her assistants are positive role models for children. They are calm and treat children with respect. They successfully build children's self-esteem, giving meaningful praise and encouragement for good behaviour and individual effort.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder's assistants do not consistently focus their teaching skills sharply enough to extend children's thinking and communication skills to the highest level. n The childminder and her assistants do not always make the best use of natural opportunities that arise to extend children's knowledge about the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles and eating healthily.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and child-initiated play, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector had discussions with the childminder and her assistants at appropriate times during the inspection and discussed improvements made since the last visit. n The inspector viewed a range of documentation and checked evidence of the suitability of all adults working with children and living in the household. n The inspector looked at children's assessment records and the adults' training certificates, and discussed plans to continue future development of the provision. n The inspector viewed all parts of the childminder's home that are used for caring for children. The inspector evaluated the success of activities with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Following the last inspection, the childminder has made several positive changes that enhance children's safety. For instance, the childminder and her assistants now have an up-to-date safeguarding knowledge and understand their responsibilities to keep children safe. They understand the correct procedures to follow if they have any concerns about a child's welfare and the correct action to take if an allegation is made against them or someone living in the household. Furthermore, they understand their duty to prevent children being drawn into situations which put them at risk of significant harm. Safeguarding is effective. Arrangements for supervision, support and coaching for the childminder's assistants are much improved. The childminder now regularly meets with her assistants to discuss their performance and to identify any further training needs. The childminder has a clear plan in place to continue to build on the improvements

already made, in particular, to continue to support her assistants to secure their knowledge and skills further to improve outcomes for children even further.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder and her assistants interact well with children and effectively support their learning. The childminder is particularly skilled at continually talking to children during their play, modelling new language and skilfully asking questions to help them to extend their own ideas and talk about their intentions. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to stories, singing songs and participating in games. Children use their imaginations well. For example, they enjoy making volcanoes using moulding sand and demonstrate good knowledge about the dangers of hot lava. Children also count accurately, compare numbers and recognise colours and shapes during their play. They have good opportunities to develop their senses and physical skills. For instance, they enjoy digging up vegetables they have grown in the garden and transporting them with a wheelbarrow. Regular observations of children's achievements are recorded and shared

with parents. The childminder uses assessment information well to ensure activities are tailored to children's individual needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistants know children well and children show they are comfortable and relaxed in their care. Children enjoy regular trips and outings, such as going to local playgroups, and visiting the playground and nearby allotment. The experiences the childminder provides promote children's physical well-being and social skills. These experiences also help them to learn about the local community and the wider world. Gentle reminders are provided for children to help them to understand expected behaviour and the clear boundaries in place. Children listen well. They show respect for one another, the childminder and her assistants.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are curious and independent learners. They show a positive attitude to trying new things and show good personal care skills. They independently wash their hands and get dressed for outdoor play. Children gain good skills that prepare them well for their next stage of learning and in readiness for nursery and school.
