Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands how to keep children safe while in her care. She knows her duty to ensure children's well-being and understands the procedures for reporting any concerns about a child's welfare. She is vigilant about children's safety in her home and during outings, and undertakes risk assessments to minimise hazards. Policies and procedures are in place which the childminder implements well and shares with parents to keep them informed about her service. The childminder uses professional development opportunities to improve her skills and reflects on her practice to improve provision for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children confidently play in a welcoming, friendly environment. The childminder provides a good range of activities to support their development effectively. She assesses children's abilities well and observes them regularly. She knows what they can do and plans developmentally appropriate activities to extend further their learning. She supports children well as they enjoy using educational puzzles depicting letters and numbers to support early mathematical development. The childminder supports children to develop their communication and language skills. For instance, she comments on children's play and encourages them to name their fruit at snack time.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are keen to learn and have time to explore the activities that interest them. They are encouraged to persevere when attempting something they find challenging, such as positioning puzzle pieces. The childminder praises their achievements and this promotes their self-esteem and confidence. She encourages children to share their fruit with others and to say 'please' and 'thank you' as part of teaching them to have good manners. The childminder provides appropriate opportunities for young children to develop an awareness of individual differences. For example, she provides them with resources that depict people from different cultural backgrounds.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working comfortably in the range of development typical for their age and are gaining the key skills needed for the move to school. They have plenty of opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, as they follow pictorial and written instructions on cards, they work out how to exercise their bodies. Children concentrate well on tasks and develop the necessary skills to continue to make progress for their future learning.
