The provision is good
n The childminder is developing her use of assessments and processes for using observations to track and plan for children's progress. Children make good progress based on their starting points on entry. n Children are cared for in a welcoming and well-resourced environment. Activities are well presented and interest the children immensely, particularly in relation to imaginative and creative play. n Children develop high levels of confidence and concentration. They are sociable and polite. Behaviour is exemplary. n The childminder provides a good balance of activities throughout the day that provide children with opportunities for independent play to engage in adult-supported activities and to mix with other children. n The childminder is strongly committed to improvement. She has completed a good variety of training over the years and organised for mentoring and coaching. She is currently looking at more varied opportunities to support her professional development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder has not developed the skills to provide outstanding support for children's speech and language development, particularly those with difficulties in pronouncing some speech sounds. n The childminder does not consistently give parents enough information about how they can help their children achieve their next steps in learning, for instance, in the home environment.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes regular training covering all aspects of safeguarding and is knowledgeable about the procedures to follow if she is concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder has made good improvements to her provision since the last inspection. For example, she provides very good opportunities for children to engage in imaginative play and to develop their creativity. She researches features of children's diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and promotes these to children to help them understand about their heritage. For example, she introduces children to the animals that live in their parents home countries and how people live.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations of children and has a good understanding of their interests, what they can do well and about any gaps in their progress. She provides a good balance of home- and community-based activities, practical experiences and opportunities to play and learn outdoors. For example, children concentrate for long periods when experimenting and modelling with play dough. The childminder's planning is purposeful and well linked to their identified next steps for progress. For example, children are helped to consolidate their knowledge of colour and perfect their hand skills as they transfer and sort miniature toy fruits using tweezers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are extremely happy and settled in the childminder's care. They form a strong emotional bond with the childminder. She takes them to local community groups, such as toddlers and the library, where they form strong friendships and experience taking part in large-group activities. The childminder plans the day well to take account of children's sleep needs. Children's health and physical development is promoted well. They use the garden, visit the local parks and go for walks. Children develop a fondness for healthy food.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Overall, children are well prepared for their transfer to nursery school. They learn to manage their own personal care competently. Toddlers confidently express their thoughts and ideas verbally in full sentences and as they use creative media, for instance, play dough. They develop strong-hand skills and use pencils with developing control. Children enjoy their learning. They enthusiastically categorise colours and enjoy counting. Children have a very keen interest in books and listen attentively to stories.
