p.1

The provision is good

n Children have close relationships with the childminder and this has a positive impact on their emotional well-being. n The childminder is a good role model for children. Children behave well and respond positively to her kind interactions, praise and encouragement. n The childminder has a wide range of good-quality toys and resources which she uses to encourage children's interests, learning and development. n The childminder successfully monitors the effectiveness of her provision and she values the views of parents and children to help her make continuous improvement. n The childminder builds on her knowledge and skills, for example, she attends training, seeks local authority support and works with other childminding colleagues. n Since the last inspection, the childminder has enhanced the outside learning environment and opportunities for writing, to further benefit children's good learning outcomes.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not make the most of her good relationships with parents to help them complement and extend the children's learning at home. n On occasion, the childminder does not give children time to think and respond to questions for themselves, to encourage them to build on their learning even further.

p.1

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder continues to update her knowledge of how to keep children safe. She has a clear understanding of the steps to take if she has concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder maintains a safe environment where children can move around freely and independently. She helps children to understand the importance of keeping safe. For example, children learn about road safety and how to use scissors safely. Parents state that they are very pleased with the feedback they receive from the childminder with regard to their child's care and education.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes and assesses children during their play to help plan for the next steps in learning. She successfully tracks their progress to help her identify and narrow any emerging gaps in their learning. The childminder plans activities to help children to develop small-muscle skills. For example, children pick up different shapes of pasta and rice to post in plastic bottles to make musical shakers. Children show a keen interest in books. They listen attentively to stories read by the childminder and join in by making the sounds of the vehicles.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children learn to use good manners, take turns and share toys. The childminder encourages children to eat healthily and to follow good hygiene practices. Children make good progress in their large-physical skills. For example, they climb, balance and slide on apparatus, and enjoy dancing to music. Children have a wide range of opportunities to develop a good understanding of the local community and the world around them. For example, they visit local parks, the library, the farm, soft-play centres and pre-school groups.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points. They learn key skills that support their next stage in learning and eventual move on to school. For example, they learn to count, recognise colours and shapes, and explore measurement. Children learn to hold a pencil correctly and make marks on paper. They develop their independence and awareness of their own and other people's feelings. Children show an enjoyment of learning and engage well in their play.
