p.1

The provision is outstanding

n The childminder has high expectations of what each child can achieve. She carries out effective monitoring of children's progress. She uses her excellent knowledge of the requirements of the early year's foundation stage to plan a wide range of challenging activities for children. For example, young children are skilled at peeling large oranges and managing tools as they prepare fruit using knives. n The childminder builds extremely strong partnerships with parents. She identifies, through observations and assessments, where children may need specific programmes of support to help them catch up. For instance, she attends parents' evenings and meets with professionals, such as teachers. This helps to rapidly reduce any gaps in children's learning, supporting all children to make progress from their starting points. n The childminder places an extremely sharp focus on developing children's communication and language skills. Furthermore, children are highly curious and

consistently ask questions about things they see and hear. For instance, while outside, young children have long discussions about the different countries' aeroplanes travel to. They expertly suggest turning 'left' or 'right' while playing in the cars. n The childminder successfully drives improvements forward. Since the last inspection, she has significantly enhanced the children's learning environment. For example, children have the opportunity to speak their home language and learn simple words in other languages. They see words in text and use sign language. Therefore, children feel extremely valued and have a strong sense of security. They have high levels of respect for their peers. n Children are exceptionally independent in care routines and in their play. For instance, young children spontaneously put toothpaste on their toothbrush to clean their teeth. n Children's behaviour is exemplary. They demonstrate high levels of self-control and

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge of how to protect children in her care. She is fully aware of the procedures to follow regarding any concerns about a child. She meticulously completes comprehensive assessments to help ensure children are extremely safe and secure. The childminder is highly reflective of her practice. She regularly gathers feedback from children and parents to ensure she continues to improve her already outstanding practice. For example, she plans to develop the outdoor area even further by building a mud kitchen. The childminder has a strong focus on professional development. In addition, she works closely with the early year's advisor from the local authority and meets with other childminders to share good practice. The speech and language therapist supports the childminder at home to help her enhance her already highly effective skills to develop children's communication. The

excellent use of information gained from this and the thorough observations from attending 'chatter time' at the local children's centre enable her to provide the best possible experiences for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

Teaching is consistently of a high quality. The childminder is exceptionally skilled at supporting young children to develop their own play. Children flourish in the free-flow environment inside and outside. They show great levels of curiosity. For example, they explore changes in the environment when they add water and soap to surfaces. This leads them to observe snails they find on the path and move them skilfully to a safe place in the garden. Highly positive comments from parents demonstrate how the outstanding contribution from the childminder has had a significant impact on the lives of children who attend. For example, children learn about and create a huge life cycle display from cocoon to butterfly following a school topic.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder nurtures children and offers them a warm and highly welcoming environment. The childminder gathers comprehensive information to support children during their settling-in sessions and shares next steps with parents. In particular, she provides weekly picture evidence with developmental information and progress. She supports children's well-being and healthy lifestyles extremely well. For example, children enjoy shopping at the market for fruit and vegetables. They talk about healthy eating and prepare their own tea. Young children confidently put on outdoor shoes to play in the garden. They actively engage in counting as they go up and down the stairs and discuss the days of the week during daily routines.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely confident and independent. They develop skills that prepare them exceptionally well for school. For example, they negotiate and work together when preparing and clearing away during different activities. They are able to share their thoughts and ideas. Young children develop their small-muscle skills during mark making. They confidently squeeze paint tubes and lift heavy paint bottles as they extend their ideas during creative play.
