Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge and understanding up to date, and knows what to do if she has concerns about children's welfare. She supervises children well and knows how to keep them safe, both in the home and on outings. The childminder works effectively in partnership with other professionals to monitor, share and develop good practice. For example, she now incorporates a wider range of activities, such as opportunities to practise threading skills, to help children develop hand-to-eye coordination.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans play experiences successfully overall to close any gaps in learning and help children achieve their potential. She communicates effectively with children, such as using a running commentary, speaking clearly, and using language appropriate to their developmental stages. This approach engages children well in their play and helps them to make links in their learning. The childminder works closely with parents to share information about children's progress and to guide learning at home. She also encourages other settings that children attend to work in partnership with her to improve consistency.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a sensitive, calm and welcoming approach that helps children to feel secure. She is a good role model, and helps children to be respectful and tolerant towards others. The childminder pays careful attention to children's care needs, enabling them to eat, rest and sleep in accordance with their individual needs. She supports children to develop a positive approach to healthy lifestyles, for example, through the provision of nutritious food and plentiful opportunities for exercise. The childminder helps children to learn how to keep themselves and others safe through explanations and discussions.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children progress well overall during their time in the setting. They become confident communicators who initiate discussions and use an increasing range of vocabulary. They develop effective physical skills as they run steadily, negotiate space successfully and use a range of equipment with increasing skill. Children develop an awareness of number as they count in sequence, and they learn to use a range of mathematical language as part of their play. They have some opportunities to develop skills for early writing and they have easy access to books to support their early reading skills.
