The provision is good
n Settling in procedures are very effective. The childminder works closely with families to learn about children's individual needs and interests, which enables her to provide an environment where they settle quickly and are happy. n Partnerships with parents are good. Parents are exceptionally happy with the service the childminder provides and feel fully involved in their children's on-going learning and development. n The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements. She constantly monitors children's rate of learning using her self-devised tracking system and understands how to support their good progress. n The childminder works closely with other settings that children attend and professionals who support their development. This helps to provide a consistent approach to their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder has not yet identified ways to fully support those children who do not yet have the confidence to speak out and make independent decisions. n At times, the childminder does not give children enough time to explore further during adult-initiated activities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
n develop systems to enable new children, or those that are not yet confident communicators, to make independent choices about what they would like to do next n allow children enough time to explore during adult-led activities before moving them on to the next stage.

p.2
Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow should she have concerns about children's safety and whom to contact if necessary. She ensures her knowledge and understanding of current guidelines and legislation are constantly up to date, for example, she attends regular training and subscribes to various early years websites. The childminder recognises the importance of continuous development, for example, she has recently attended training to help develop her knowledge on the different ways children learn. This has helped her further understand how to support children's individual development. The childminder works closely with parents and values any feedback they may suggest to help her develop even further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows children's lead and extends their play ideas successfully. For example, as children played with farm animals she asked them if they knew what noises they made. This encouraged them to think and tested their knowledge. She supports children's developing communication and language skills well, she narrates as they play and slowly repeats words that they might say incorrectly. The childminder has a range of interesting resources and activities that children confidently explore. For example, children enjoyed feeling dried pasta and rice and working out what would fit through a funnel.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows children well and has secure relationships with them. Children seek her out for reassurance and play and thoroughly enjoy their time in her home. The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote positive behaviour. She treats children with respect, praises them constantly and provides gentle reminders to ensure they know what is expected of them. Children have plenty of opportunities to gain fresh air and exercise. They enjoyed being in the garden and showed care and consideration to their 'babies' as they pushed them around the garden. The childminder makes good use of local amenities, for example, she takes children to toddler groups and soft-play centres. This helps provide opportunities for children to meet others, learn about their differences and the wider world they live in.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and are developing the skills needed for their future learning and eventual move on to school. They are developing in confidence and not afraid to have a go, for example, children enjoyed dancing to nursery rhymes and remembered some of the actions. They are developing their concentration and small-muscle skills in preparation for writing, for example, children persevered as they threaded small wooden beads onto string to make patterns.
