p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder and her co-childminder work together well. The childminder learns from her more experienced co-childminder and together, they share new skills. This supports the childminder in continually evaluating and improving her practice. n The childminder reads stories using different voices and animal sounds. This helps to engage young children who listen intently and imitate the sounds when they recognise the animals. n Children learn to be independent. The childminder supports children in leading healthy lifestyles and they enjoy spending time outdoors. n Children are making good progress in their learning and development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n The childminder does not have any current plans in place to enhance her good skills and knowledge, and increase her professional development further. n The childminder does not include parents' observations of children's progress from home in her assessments to make these even more precise.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n develop a plan for professional development to build further on good knowledge and skills n include the observations that parents share in the assessments made of children's development to even further increase the precision.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of the childminder and her co-childminder and household members. n The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows her responsibilities to keep children safe in her care. She understands about the work of the Local Safeguarding Children Board and how to report any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder supervises children closely when they play and outings are well-planned with children's safety in mind. The childminder works well with parents to find out about children's home routines. Relationships with families are professional and supportive.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children make good progress in their communication and language skills. The childminder supports them well. She talks to children and gives them time to respond. This helps them to think independently and they share their ideas with her. Children immerse themselves in their learning. When exploring autumn items in a discovery tray, they lay on their tummy to get a closer look at the tiny creatures that crawl through the leaves, studying them intently. The childminder knows children well and plans activities to support their next steps in learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children clearly have a strong attachment to the childminder and her co-childminder. They are confident in the childminder's care and willing to try new activities. The children eat their meals together and the childminder sits with them encouraging their social skills. Children spend time in the garden. They play on push-along bicycles and spend time going around and around the garden, powering the bicycles and cars with their legs. This helps to strengthen the muscles in their legs. Children settle quickly and form close attachments with the childminder and her co-childminder.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good rates of progress. Activities are well planned and meet children's individual needs and interests. Children enjoy opportunities to learn from each other and all children play together harmoniously. Children's behaviour is good. Children play in the garden with bubbles. They jump and stretch their bodies to catch the bubbles. This promotes lots of discussion and children share and take turns. Children are well prepared for moving on in their learning and developing the skills that they need in readiness for starting school.
