This children’s home is one of several homes owned by a private organisation. The home provides care and accommodation for up to three children, as specified within the home’s statement of purpose.

Judgement at last inspection: inadequate

p.1

Enforcement action since last inspection:

A monitoring visit was undertaken in August 2018.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged inadequate at the last full inspection on 5 June 2018. Following this interim inspection, the home is not judged.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Seven requirements and one recommendation resulted from the last full inspection. Some progress was noted at the monitoring visit in August 2018, although no records were available for inspection to verify this progress. Therefore, all seven requirements and one recommendation remained in place following the monitoring visit. The completion date for all requirements was 31 August 2018.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

No children are currently living in the home. The last young person was moved by his placing authority shortly after the last full inspection in June 2018 and there have been no further admissions.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Two of the requirements made at the last inspection are now met. The general Inspection report children’s home: SC010700 2 appearance and decoration of the home have significantly improved. The provider is yet to establish the outcome of the environmental health team’s investigation, although the kitchen is fit for purpose and open. The provider intends to make some further improvements to one of the upstairs rooms to create a relaxation room. The provider will also replace the flooring in the dining room and purchase a television and computer for the home.

p.1

and young people since the most recent full inspection

Inspectors reviewed staff files. The human resources department has completed an audit of these files and where there were gaps, these have now been explained and recorded. Safer recruitment training for all members of the human resources team and the managers has been arranged for the end of September 2018.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

The home does not have a registered manager in place. The last registered manager left her post in April 2017. Therefore, the home has been without a registered manager for over 26 weeks. The provider said that a potential candidate has been identified.

p.2

and young people since the most recent full inspection

The provider has made some progress towards meeting the remaining requirements and the recommendation. Systems have been renewed/reviewed and updated accordingly. However, these systems remain untested while the home has no registered manager, no established staff team and no children on roll. These five requirements and one recommendation are therefore repeated at this inspection.
