p.1

The provision is good

n Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder speaks with them every day and shares information about the activities children have enjoyed. n Children delight in spending time at the childminder's home and form genuinely close relationships with the childminder and each other. This helps to raise their emotional well-being and sense of belonging. n Children are good communicators. They negotiate their own play and play cooperatively with their peers. n Children enjoy the freedom to explore indoors and outdoors, and have good opportunities to challenge their physical skills. For example, they enjoy balls games and confidently practise news skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Although the childminder regular evaluates her provision, she does not use all opportunities to seek the views of children and involve them in the self-evaluation process, to help raise standards to an even higher level. n The childminder does not place enough emphasis on enhancing her already good skills, knowledge and practice, to help deliver the highest quality provision and excellent outcomes for children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly attends child protection training and has a secure understanding about how to report any concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder knows how to keep children safe. For example, she involves them in risk assessments and takes appropriate steps to minimise any risks to children in the home and on outings. The childminder has good partnerships with other professionals. For example, she holds regular discussions with teachers at the school. This helps to complement their learning further. Parents are complimentary about the service the childminder provides. They comment their children are very happy and enjoy their time at the setting.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good variety of activities. This includes visits to nearby places of interest, such as local parks. Activities complement children's learning and encourage them to use their emerging skills. For example, children show great imagination. They work as a team, write their own play script and create different characters. Children are assertive and confident. They thoroughly enjoy performing and acting out their roles in front of visitors. Older children encourage younger peers to take part in activities. For example, as part of the play, younger children create a menu and price up different meals, helping to build on their creative thinking. The childminder interacts positively with children and effectively promotes children's speaking skills through discussions. For example, children confidently chat about their day. They listen to the interests of their friends, and actively discuss and recite their favourite books and films.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children of different ages are consistently polite and considerate towards each other. They use good manners and welcome visitors into the childminder's home with genuine enthusiasm. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles well. For example, she regularly liaises with parents about children's welfare and individual needs. Children talk expressively about their experiences, similarities or differences, such as their cultural backgrounds and dietary requirements and preferences. The childminder encourages children to take responsibility in managing their own self-care needs and extends their independence well. For example, children wash their hands with no prompting. They know their routines and tidy up toys before teatime. The childminder builds on children's confidence and self-esteem, for example, through praise and encouragement.
