They share their expectations to help children understand what is expected of them. Children respond positively to the consistent praise and encouragement from the caring and attentive staff.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Staff in the baby room do not always use the information they gather from observing children as effectively as possible, to provide focused experiences that fully supports children to make the most of their learning. n Children have fewer opportunities to see and use their home language in the environment and as they play.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Staff deploy themselves well and implement effective risk assessments to help maintain a safe environment. They complete training and regularly discuss child protection procedures at meetings. Staff know how to identify and report any concerns they may have about a child's welfare. Managers have a good overview of the progress of groups of children. This helps them to work with staff to promote children's good progress. Effective coaching, supervision and support of staff helps them to continually improve their knowledge and skills. Staff work effectively with other professionals involved in children's learning and care. They act quickly to address any concerns and implement robust procedures to meet children's individual needs. This helps to ensure they make the best possible progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The majority of staff are qualified and experienced. Staff know children well and they provide activities that reflect their different interests and learning styles. Pre-school children explore the properties of different materials, testing what they can pick up with magnets. They handle tools with skill to pick out and count seeds from the sunflower head. Children demonstrate their knowledge as they talk excitedly about what they will need to do to help the seeds to grow. Younger children enjoy investigating a range of different media. They dig in soil, pour water and watch and feel sand as it falls through a sieve onto their hands. Children enjoy listening to and making music. Babies move their bodies, smiling as they dance to the rhythm. Children join in with familiar songs and rhymes and use sticks to tap out rhythms on different objects.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children and parents are warmly welcomed into the nursery by the kind and friendly staff. Effective key-person arrangements help to promote secure relationships and support staff in meeting children's individual needs from the start. Staff follow babies' home routines and seek detailed information from parents to help ensure all children settle well. As children move between rooms within the nursery, staff work well together to successfully support them in joining a new group of children. Staff effectively promote children's health and well-being. They provide nutritious meals and snacks and children benefit from plenty of fresh air and exercise. Children of all ages enjoy exploring the nursery garden and gain a greater awareness of the local community as they take part in trips in the area.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and develop a wide range of skills in preparation for when they start school. They develop their confidence and become increasingly independent from a young age. Babies learn to use spoons to feed themselves and toddlers and pre-school children serve their own meals and snacks. Children demonstrate a good understanding of number, shape and mathematical language as they explore different objects.
