The provision is good
n Children enjoy trips into the local community. For instance, they attend 'sing and sign' groups, where they have opportunities to make new relationships with a wide range of children. n The childminder has a secure understanding of the age group with which she is working. The quality of teaching is consistently good. This effectively supports children to make good progress in their learning and development. n The childminder is kind and sensitive in her approach. She offers gentle and thoughtful care to meet the individual needs of children. Children enjoy the praise and encouragement they receive from the childminder as they play and during care routines. n On a daily basis, the childminder shares information about children's progress with parents and ensures that they are fully involved in their children's learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
n The childminder does not prepare her environment sufficiently to meet babies' sleep and rest needs. n The childminder's reflection on her practice is not precise enough to help identify how to raise the level of her provision to the highest level.

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good
Overall, the childminder is committed to improving her practice. For example, she regularly completes online training to update her professional knowledge. Recent training has developed her understanding of changes to safeguarding legislation. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements robust safeguarding procedures and understands how to protect children's welfare. The childminder completes accurate assessments of children's learning based on regular observations. She uses this information to plan activities in line with individual children's next steps in learning and their interests.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a good variety of age-appropriate activities to encourage children to have fun as they learn. Young children enjoy being creative with musical instruments. For instance, they watch the childminder use the drum and mimic what she does, creating their own beat and rhythm. The childminder creates a print-rich environment, which successfully supports children's knowledge that print carries meaning. She often reads to children, which helps them to develop a love of books, and young children are beginning to turn the pages themselves. The childminder is proactive in encouraging children's communication and language. She listens and responds well to their babbling. This helps children to become skilful communicators.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder implements effective settling-in procedures which help to support children to feel confident and safe in her care. She helps children to learn about good hygiene procedures, such as washing their hands before they eat. Younger children enjoy this experience as they get to splash in the water. The childminder prepares varied healthy meals and snacks daily, which contributes towards children learning how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children have daily opportunities to benefit from fresh air and exercise. For instance, they access the childminder's garden to play on a range of equipment. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experience. For example children have access to dolls and play figures that reflect a range of ethnic and religious backgrounds.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn good skills that prepare them well for their future learning. Children are happy and keen to learn and explore. For instance, young children gain good independence skills, such as learning to feed themselves with finger food. Children enjoy activities that help them develop their understanding of information technology. For example, they explore the buttons on pop-up toys and watch intently for the ball to appear.
