p.1

The provision is good

n The childminder is well qualified and uses her extensive experience to help provide children with good-quality learning experiences. n Babies learn about cause and effect and enjoy problem solving. They play with toys where they press buttons and an animal pops up. As they develop their awareness of how this works, they use their feet to press the buttons. n The childminder makes accurate observations and assessments of children's learning. This enables her to plan activities that stimulate and challenge children and promote their good progress. n The childminder talks to children about safety. She explains how to keep safe as they play, such as not putting the end of push-along toys in their mouths.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

n Although the childminder attends regular training, she does not always choose courses that provide her with new learning to enhance the good quality of her teaching even further. n The childminder does not always make effective use of information about children's cultures and beliefs to help to expand her teaching about the differences and similarities between children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

n strengthen the programme for professional development to enhance the good quality of teaching even further n expand on children's learning about their home cultures and celebrations and the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities n The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. n The inspector held discussions with the childminder at suitable times. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of the childminder and household members. n The inspector read and took account of the written feedback provided by parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of leadership and management is good

The childminder talks to parents about children's home routines and their sleep patterns, so she can plan her daily routine to meet the changing needs of young babies. The childminder works successfully with parents to include them in children's learning. She is using technology to share photographs and observations of children's activities with them. This helps parents to support children's learning at home. The childminder is alert to the signs and symptoms that a child might be at risk harm. She knows how to report any such concerns to the Local Safeguarding Children Board.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Babies start to learn about how to solve simple problems, such as how to carry a ball when they are crawling. They work this out by biting the ball and carrying it in their mouth and they crawl from room to room. The childminder provides high-quality teaching to promote children's communication and language skills. She uses lots of language and sings with babies as they play. She repeats words and talks back to children when they initiate conversations by making eye contact and babbling.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is calm and attentive to children's needs. She gently cradles babies and talks to them softly as they have their bottles of milk. Babies delight in playing games with childminder. She rolls a ball back and forth and tickles children. They anticipate the tickle and shriek, showing delight as they play. The childminder reacts to babies' changing needs. When children do not settle to sleep, she picks them up and cuddles them, bringing them back into the room to play. When babies who are new to the setting need extra reassurance, the childminder spends time with them, cuddling them and giving them comfort. Children gain a strong attachment to the childminder and they separate from their parents with confidence. The childminder ensures that children have regular fresh air and exercise. When playing inside, they enjoy climbing in and out of a paddling pool filled with balls. This helps them to strengthen their large muscles, helping

them to gain control of their movements and supporting their early attempts at walking.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Young children are making good progress in their learning and development. They are alert and curious about the environment and explore the activities on offer with a sense of purpose. Young children are beginning to understand how to use language to make strong connections with others. Young children are starting to develop the essential skills that they need for learning. This prepares them well for when they eventually start school.
